When do you use which? I have a pony with swelling in his tendon area above fetlock. I think he did something in the mud walking in pasture. I can't get swelling to come down. Not much heat. Debating on one of these methods to help.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS use cold therapy for the first 48 hours! If you use a hot treatment on a newly injured tendon, you could cause even more damage. My rule of thumb is cold (poultice) on any new problem. Heat (sweat) on any old problem.

I agree. Poultice first. When the heat is gone, then sweat.
