| Looking into getting a new to me car/suv to drive back and forth to work. I have an older (2003 cad cts) that is lower on mileage, bu the repairs are so expensive because of it being a luxury car, and becoming more and more frequent that it would almost be the same as having a car payment if necessary, so its time for me to start thinking of moving on...i understand all vehicles have maintenance, just wondering what does everyone drive back and forth to work that is reliable and loved :) thanks in advance!! |

Location: Phoenix | If I had to buy a new car right NOW, I'd go with a Hyundai Elantra or Sonata or a Kia Optima. Spacious sedans and good gas mileage. I'd also love to have another Kia Soul. It was so fun and while being compact it was very spacious also.
For SUV's the Nissan Rogue's and Murano's feel a little more better built than the Hyundai SUV's. I don't mind the GMC Terrain or Chevy Equinox. The Ford Escape is just too cramped and I HATE the radio interface. Ford technology is just too complicated to deal with.
Unless you're opting for a Grand Cherokee, steer clear of Jeeps. A lot cheaper made now and even if you upgrade a bit you still don't get anywhere close to good gas mileage. Also, do not buy a Chrysler 200z. STAY AWAY. I'm not really a Toyota fan....they just sound and drive so cheap to me; very "tinny". Mazda's don't really impress me much; I know Ford owns Mazda but they're almost more similar to a Toyota with their "tinny"-ness. Not very comfortable either.
I currently drive an 09 Hyundai Elantra and love it. I work for a car rental company and I get to drive and look at ALOT of cars. |

I love my Escape. I'm 6 foot and my husband is 6'4". We are cramped at all. I also have Sync in my Fiesta and love it. I find it pretty easy to use. Funny how everyone is different.
PS - we have two - one with 189k miles and the other with 365k miles. My daily is a Fiesta since I drive about 100 miles a day for work. It's pretty badace. |

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | My wife has 08 Ford Edge. Has 195,000 miles on it. We have only put spark plugs and one wheel bearing in it so far. Besides tires and brakes of course. Still runs and drives like it was new. Also if you are in the rust belt the Edge's just don't seem to rust like other cars. |

| I test drive several when we were shopping. Ended up not buying as I'm hoping to get a job with either a company vehicle or at least close enough to not be a big deal driving the big trucks.
I enjoyed the Honda CR-V and the Hyundai Santa Fe sport the most. Drove well and sat you up higher like a truck. When driving long distance I do not ride well in a car and end up with severe lower back pain. Several models of car have caused this so we gave up and started looking at suvs.
I found the seats in the equinox to be too narrow. I'm broad in the shoulders and any seat the wants to hug me and roll my shoulders in gets uncomfortable quick. The toyotas felt cheap and I didn't care for the layout. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with Eco Mode turned OFF. I get upwards of 30mpg on the highway. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic in my car and I swear it runs better. I love my car. Very roomy. Sporty looking, cheap, and it comes with a 100k mile warranty.

| our truck always always stays hooked up to our trialer unless we are getting feed or hauling something we cannot fit in either of our vehicles. My husband drives an hour to and from work and has a "beater" its very dependable, but literally beat to he!! so the term is fitting. My car has always been our nicer vehicle to go places in etc. I only drive 5 miles to and from work everyday, so not really concerned with gas mileage and not looking for something new new, just new to me. Probably a 2010-2012 or so. We have always paid cash, so I hate the thought of a car payment, it physically pains me.. so i am realllllllly struggling with this |

My Hubby has a beater he used to drive to work too. He has a 2001 Daewoo Nubira he bought for little to nothing. Rebuilt the engine and trans and it's good to go. Also beat up. He's well over 6 foot and has to sit almost in the back seat to fit but he used to drive that thing everywhere.
We take it to town alot if we just want a quiet night out or if I need to run to town in a pinch and pick up some milk or eggs for dinner. People don't look for us in that car and it blends in pretty well. lol and the windows are so dark you can't see inside.
All our other vehicles are very distinct and it never fails that someone finds us in town and wants to talk for 3 hours lol . We go stealth mode in the Daewoo. |

| I got a 15 chev trax. Love love it! Great gas mileage all wheel drive and it's a super cute hot rod! Not a whole lot of cargo space but for just me it's a perfect fit. |

Location: ~Kansas~ | I test drove and looked at every small SUV.. ended up with an Equinox and I LOVE IT.. drives great... quiet.. nice and roomy.. great gas mileage got it in March 2014 has 55, 000 miles on it. haven't done a thing besides routine check ups. I will have to get tires before the end of the year.

| My daughter has a Ford Focus hatch back, pretty neat car for the price range, she loves it. Has the no hands parallel parking, lane changing sensors, back up camera, lots of bells and whistles for the price range but doesn't feel cheap. She was looking used but found a new 2015 that was the same price as a low mileage used 2016 or 17. |

Location: MN | I miss my Ford Fusion everyday! When I see one on the road, I always say to myself that I loved that car. It was a 2007, low milage when I bought it and got about 27 mpg in town and 32 mpg on the highway. It was AWESOME. I've also had a '15 Chevy Malibu. That was also a great car! |

| I love my Ford Fusion! Although, where we live we get just enough snow/ice that I can't get up my steep driveway. And even though this isn't our forever home, I think wherever we end up will be even more rural, so I test drove an Explorer for the 4wd, and loved the way it handled. Just waiting til we need it. I also like the Acadia's a lot. |

So this has bothered me for a while when people say this. Most of my fathers side of my family worked or still work in the American auto industry.
Towing trucks aside, the majority of daily drivers in the family are Hondas.
You know what? The assembly of those Hondas fed a lot of family's like mine - in Ohio, in Alabama, and in my home state of Indiana the opening of the Greensburg plant in 2008 brought 2400 jobs to a county with a population of 25,000.
The United States now assembles more Hondas than Japan.
The story is the same for Toyota.
Parts come from all over the world for any vehicle - it's easier to ship parts than assembled vehicles.

Location: Windoming | Can't go wrong with a Honda CRV or a Pilot, if you don't want to waste money on repairs. We have had four Hondas in the last 24 years and maybe paid out $2000 in repairs on all of them. All of them have well over 200,000 miles on them. One has over 500,000 miles and still going. They also hold their value. One had 250,000 miles on it, was 15 years old, and sustained $1500 body damage. I figured the insurance company would just total it. Nope, they paid us the $1500 with the comment that Hondas just keep going and going and that we should just use the check as a down payment on a new one! My husband had the damage fixed, a month later hit another critter on the road and sustained the same damage! We didn't turn it in, figured the insurance company would never believe us. It was cosmetic anyway, the spoiler underneath the front of the car. (big jackrabbit hit it!) Love our Hondas! |

Location: If I ever get back to Oklahoma..... | I have a 2013 Dodge Durango. I like the space and how easy it is to drive. Front end is a lot like a car and it's easy to get in and out of parking lots. It's nice to be able to seat 7 and haul stuff in the back when I don't have that many passengers. Probably only gets about 20-22 mpg. Prior to that I had a 2008 GMC Acadia. I liked the leather and two capitans chairs in the middle row and the fact it seated 7 pretty comfortably. The one we had had serious tranmission issues at 115k miles. GM fixed it but it was not right. It got hailed on a week after we'd got it out of being in the shop for dang near 2 months. Was rather disappointed with it. Apparently the 2008-2011 Acadias all had issues..
We had a 2004 Chevy Malibu that wasn't much to look at but you could get probably 30mpg on it. It was great until it wouldn't start. Probably spent $1,000 to get those issues resolved with the theft deterrent system. It'd be nice to have another "beater with a heater" to commute with.
