Went to feed my horse and he acted like he was spooking at something on his right side. Just weird. I went up to him and he had a total muscle spasm !!! It was like spasmodic colic of the flank/gut but it was his shoulder instead. Eating , drinking normally. Passed manure , temp normal and breathing normal. I rubbed it for a few and let him eat some grass and all is well!! Anyone else seen something this weird????

I have had horses do this several times over the years and it was just a muscle spasm nothing else. The one time the filly was very cold in the rain and had been shivering we got her warm and rubbed her down she was fine. It could of course be something else but just like us it can be just a spasm.

Interesting discussion, especially about the spasmodic colic of the flank. I have a gelding who has displayed sysptoms like what I read when I researched the spasmodic colic. Only has happened in the mornings right before I feed. He will go trotting out of the barn and trot circles in the pasture outside of the barn. He has done this 3 times now but has been spaced out like when a weather change. He doesn't lay down but he will turn and bite at his right flank (it has always been on the right) and kind of kick at his stomach. I have given him banamine and my neighbor says it is not colic. His right flank gets twitches like there are flies bugging him but I see no flies. Last time he displayed this I put my magnetic sheet on him and it seemed to calm down. Anyone have this happen to their horse before? What can I do to prevent this?
