Location: NE TX | Just started mine on this last Friday night for horrible allergies (itching mane and tail out somehow from within an electric fence).
Has anyone ever given this and how long should it take to see results?
Thanks in advance! |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | i had better luck with benedryl. i used to have a mare that would get horrible allergies the first of spring when everything started blooming. She would get hives, itch all over, watery eyes, the whole 10 yards. i gave 1 benedryl per every 100lbs morning and night in with grain and by the pm feeding on the first day she was already feeling better. she typically only needed it for 3-4 days and then she was good untill the next breakout. good luck! |

Location: NE TX | This is an extended thing though. I've had her 4 years and this is the first spring she has done this. Last fall was the first time she had done this so I'm assuming that this will go on until end of October like it did last year. |

Location: MN | I had a friend who had to try a few out before finding one that worked. I think she ended up using Zyrtec in the end. She said she started seeing improvements within 2 weeks. |

Okay ... I gotta ask ... does Benadryl make your horse drowsy like it does to people? More curiosity than anything. I take 1/2 and I'm no good for a day! |

Hubby takes a QUARTER and he's out for the day. For humans, he seems to be enjoying Xyzal the most.
Are any of these human allergy forms approved by vets? Have you tried a steroid? Mine isn't itching YET. :/ |

My gelding has terrible allergies and the vet told me to use benadryl. My guy is HUGE so he suggested 16, 25 mg twice daily. It made him a little drowsy so I backed off dosage to 12 and much better. I think mine has mountain cedar allergies which was HORRID this year. Since that's out of air now it's only sometimes he needs it particularly when it's windy/dusty |

| Silly question, but Im assuming you are all referring to the regular, over the counter Benadryl/Zyrtec meds for human consumption?? |

Location: on my horse | I feed costco costco brand zyrtec so allertec. Ten pills 2x a day... Not sure how many mg but it works amazingly well. She doesn't cough or have nasal drainage like she did. I can definitely tell if i miss a dose, I start in march usually and go through october. This is her 3rd year on it. Was seeing improvement within ten days she had to have a few days to let it do its work and to clear out her sinuses i think. |

| It does require an Rx but I have had great luck with Hydroxyzine HCl tablets. You feed (9) 50mg tablets 2x per day. A 1000 ct bottle is $120. |

I was getting powdered Zyrtec from the pharmacy my vet uses. Pharmacy ran out of Zyrtec so had to switch to Hydroxyzine and she isn’t doing as well on it. |

This is what my vet suggested for my mare who got hives when the smoke was bad around us this summer. I tried Benadryl for a few days and it didn't make a difference. So I called the vet and she said they've had better luck with allertec. Same dosage too (10 pills 2x daily). It definitely seemed to help her. Plus its cheap compared to many other options. I think like $20 for 500 pills or something. I cant remember for sure. |

| My vet suggested Zyrtec too. How are you getting that in your horse? Are they flavored? My horse is an easy keeper so I don't think I could put it in her feed and don't you get tired of crushing pills 2x a day? Id like to try it because hers are seasonal too- Mar- Oct. |

Location: Oregon | I'm just putting the pills in my mare's grain. She gets a soaked gruel, so I don't think she even notices. Usually she is pro at picking things out of her grain and would never eat anything soaked, but then I added coolstance coconut meal and she LOVES it, even soaked. Prior to finding the coolstance, I have in the past put one feeding's worth of pills into a power grinder (blender sorta) like youd use for nuts or something in the kitchen and then once ground down to powder, put that in the baggie to add to grain. Then just prep a bunch of baggies at once. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | My horse has horrid allergies and would get hives, cough, and running nose from April till our first frost. For 2 years we did Hydroxyzine pills that we got from the vet. Than he suggested Clariton as I wouldn't have to feed it twice a day and it is alot cheaper. I gave it a shot and haven't looked back, its going on 3 years now. I have another horse on it. I buy the generic "All Clear" on Amazon. I start with 6 pills once daily (very small size) and than on maintenance they both get 2-3 depending on the horse than off in winter. Much cheaper and they don't notice it in their grain. Just ordered another 3 pack. |

How often did you have to give the Clariton? I'm not liking how she is still itchy on the Hydroxyzine but I still can't get the Zyrtec from the pharmacy. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | I start by 5-6 tablets ONCE a day and when I start to see improvement - I lower the dose. In April I started 6 tablets once daily for a month than I would deviate from there. When we would have good stretch of days - 3 tablets - but when pollen/dust/bugs kicked in we went back up to 6. September and part of October lowered to 3 per day but than it warmed up and running noses and constant rubbing and 1 case of hives came. Back up to 6 tablets until next freeze. I saw improvement in 2 days. |
