Asking for prayers for my uncle. I'm not close with him, but he has a wife and four sons who adore him and are so broken right now. Nine days ago, Tom was working in a backhoe at his church, in the AZ heat. He stumbled out, drank some water and said he needed to lie down. He quit breathing. Upon being transported to the hospital, his body registered at 110 degrees. Tom suffered heat stroke that led to a heart attack. He then fell into a coma. Doctors and neurologists say he will never recover and has little brain activity. He will be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life. They also said that he is not aware of people in his room, likely can't see or hear. However, he has begun following people with his eyes, as well as shut his eyes tight twice when the nurse asked him to close his eyes if he could hear. His heart rate and breathing also calm down when my aunt is talking and praying over him.

I won't pretend to know Gods plan here, and any progress will likely be short lived and the doctors will likely be right... but I also know there is power in prayer and God performs miracles all the time. I'm not asking anyone to pray for a miracle. Just asking for Gods will to be done and for comfort, peace, understanding and anything else you can think of for his family. This has broken them. I can't even fathom being in the same situation.

Thank you...

First off I want to thank you guys so so so much. And I want to give an update that has stunned everyone....

This afternoon, Tom is able to nod yes and shake for no and answer questions that way. It takes him time, but he is responding. He's also smiling and still following with his eyes as well as making eye contact and possibly recognizing people.

Praise God. I don't have words.

I wanted to post an update since you guys were so gracious enough to pray for him...

As of yesterday, Tom has been moved to a rehab facility for physical therapy. He took his first bites of food last night. He is very weak, but is able to get out of his bed and to the chair in his room. The nurse has been getting on to him, because he's doing this while there's nobody in the room to help. He's trying to be independent. He is talking about wanting to go on a family camping trip and having a pool party. Praise GOD, because this IS a miracle. The doctors and neurologists said to take him off life support as he would be in a vegetative state if he ever came out of the coma. Now he can continue to be a husband, a father, an uncle, a brother and a grandfather.

On a side note, he and my aunt have been separated for the past several years. They have since decided to try to work on their marriage again and "celebrated" their anniversary on Sunday.

More prayers that he is a very stubborn and determined man enough to experience a full recovery of mind, spirit and marriage.

Thank you Lord for the progress he has made so far.

What a wonderful update; I was thinking about your uncle last night, along with some more folks on here that I've shamefully not checked in on lately. . . . Stubborn and hard headed aren't nasty words in my vocabulary!!
