We are making our first trip to a barrel race at the San Antonio Rose Palace from Arizona and wanted to see if anyone had any tips/information/advise on the arena/stalls/area/things to do etc. Thanks in advance

You will want to bring fans for the stalls because they get very hot! And something to hang, strap, mount your fan up top of the stall such as the Box Fan Holders from Valleyvet. The stalls are wood 1" x 12" with about a 2" gap between each board so there isn't much air flow from the sides. There are electrical outlets at the tops of each stall, but you may need an extension cord. Stalls are hard packed dirt so plan on lots of shavings or using soft ride boots or mats. If you plan on getting a hook up, those by the barn are VERY close together. Great warm up and main arenas. All under one roof. There are good restaurants, grocery store & convenience stores close by.

And if you are sticking around for a couple of days, Six Flags Fiesta Texas is close by, Sea World isn't too far and The Alamo and River Walk are reasonably close too.
