| I have a very hard running mare that I'm having trouble finding a bit for. She's great at slow work, and we've done drills after drills. My trouble is once I let her run, I have NO rate, and no control. I'm running her in a square port articulating bit now, but she doesn't respond to it. Before going back to my correction bit, I'm wondering if you have any suggestions?
I need something with A LOT of whoa, as she's pretty hard running and will run right through most bits.
Yes, she's had had her teeth, chiro, vet check. Yes, we've done drills. Just looking for suggestions on bits please :-)
I've attached photos of a bit similar to what I'm using (which isn't working) and what I've found does work, but I have no bend or flex in.

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | Could you maybe warm her up in a heavy bridle to get her attention and then put something on her with more bend just to run her? I warm one of my geldings up in a medium port correction to get him sharp and then run him in a bit that is practically nothing. Just a thought... most bits you find with a lot of whoa, you're going to lose your bend and flex.

| Since she's already in a port, I would try a pretzel bit. Either an add Wright or a Molly Powell run and rate. | |

Location: Dubach, LA | I can't help at all. I've never been able to fix one with a bit. Checked flapper? Try some runs on lasix. Good luck.
