I'm looking into applying and using it for a horse of mine. I just dont have the lump some upfront that i need and i dont want my boy hurting any longer. I want all the info you possibly have on carecredit. Is it as good/helpful as it sounds? Any hidden charges or "fine print" to watch out for?

I've never had ANY ISSUES as far as bad or cons.Pay on time and you're golden, don't pay it off in the amount of time and interest gets you.I believe they have made it a 6 month pay off but don't quote me on that.

Great! i was a bit worried just because the friends i know that have it, dont have horses and have never had to pay a big bill with it like i will. haha Do you know if they increase the pay off time if its a larger amount ? I cant see them wanting paid off in 6 months if its a couple thousand dollar payment. I could be wrong though! Im hoping i can keep mine under $2,000 but we all know how vet bills can rack up.

My Hubby's Mom used it for her Pre Cancer surgery because her insurance was taking to long to approve. She got the insurance to pay it off. Don't know how but she did.
We have used it for my eye glasses before. I am legally blind by the standard but can see really well with my glasses.

My glasses start at around $500. So needless to say when I broke the only plastic frames I've ever worn I went back to metal frames. I cannot see to drive without my glasses so I had to get them in pretty quick which also was extra $.  I paid it off pretty quickly. That interest rate is killer!

The amount of time you have to pay it off depends on the amount of the "loan". I agree that as long as you pay it off in the designated time you are fine, but the interest rates are crazy if you don't pay it off in time.

The no-interest grace period is nice.  And they make it clear in the website when your time is up so just plan accordingly and pay more than the minimum to get it pad off in time.

I was researching the website and see they do have different monthly options but im guessing that depends on how much you spend as well. What do you mean that my vet will have a limit available? Sorry im new to this lol

Part of it depends on the clinic and part of it the price. If its under $ 200 then you have one billing cycle (I want to say that is 28 days).Over 200 is 6 months or longer depending on the clinic. Some places will only offer the 6 month plan even if it is 2K. You will need to ask your clinic which plans they offer.

Its worth it and just pay it off in the allotted time so you don't have to pay the interest. They are super easy to work with!!

We used it and we were so glad to have it when we needed it.

Like the others have said, just make sure you pay it off before your promotional period expires. We had one year to pay ours off. If you do not pay it completely off within the specified period they hit you with ALL of the back interest! Which is a lot, so if you plan on using make sure you have a payoff plan.

Your terms (interest and timeframe) are determined at the time you make the purchase. Different places will offer different "promotions". I paid about $2500 of my dog's surgery on CareCredit and had 1 year to pay it off with no interest. I made another, larger purchase a few months later and chose the option to have a few years to pay it with something like 14% interest.

Here's the one problem I had with them...

I made my 2nd purchase before the 1st was paid off. So, I had two purchases on the card which had different promotions on the purchases. The problem was, the minimum payment was not going to get my first (no interest) purchase paid off within the 1 year. BUT, when I paid more than the minimum payment, any overage was applied to the purchase with the higher interest rate. Apparently the ONLY way to apply a payment to a specific purchase is to talk on the phone with them. I did this SEVERAL times, and SEVERAL times had them not apply my payment correctly. Finally, about a month before my promotion time was up, I used the online customer service chat and was able to get the balance paid off. I hope that made sense. They really need a better system for that. If I hadn't been diligent in checking online on where my payments were applied, I would have been stuck with something like 25% interest to pay them.

Overall I'm happy I used CareCredit, and it's easy to get your limit raised (automated system over the phone) when you need it.

Same here.  Always pay within 6 months (or specified time frame) for no-interest grace period.  The interest IS huge, but I've used mine a LOT and have never had surprises, nor have I ever paid a dime in interest.

it's great to have when you need it. I used it for an impaction colic episode and recently when my horse was diagnosed with wobblers $900+ bill. Will use again next week for a $1500 myleogram. Horse is insured but all diagnostic stuff has to be done first, I pay and then pray insurance will pay.

Hey, someone opened a credit care card in my husband's name. We are trying to contact a real person to clear this up. Does anyone have a number for them that lets you talk to a real person?

Each office or facility that accepts care credit can choose which "plans" or terms they offer. I believe the last time I used mine the minimum for not paying the full balance was $150. So, if you know you are going to use it, and call the clinic or office of wherever and say, this is what i need to pay with, which terms will you offer for X amount of dollars. This is because the doctor/vet, etc gets LESS of your actual money if they allow you to pay it off in longer terms, so typically they want to offer you the least amount so they actually receive the most amount.

So, yes like the others said, pay it off in the time frame, and you're good.

Okay, so last night we applied for the card over the phone. They only approved us for $500, is that standard? it did say if we need a credit increase to contact the CC provider. So, does that mean i let my vet know that i need more to pay the bill? Sorry the website wasnt very helpful in this department. We haven't seen the vet yet for this particular problem, but I just wanted to have my ducks in a row before we went. Or is this the type of thing you have to do then and there? Thanks for all the info so far, it's been very helpful!

When all my horses broke at one time, I just called Care Credit to see if I could get my credit limit moved up a bit and they were really helpful!

Had you had your card for ahwile and used it before or we're you a new card holder? We literally just applied for the card last night and have never had it before so i just assumed they wouldnt give us a increase since we are new.  If not, i can still make it work since my vet allows us to make payments, but it would just be easier to be making one payment instead of two on the same visit.

Ok so I'm curious...is this something that you can just apply for and then keep in your wallet in case of an emergency? I'll be moving out on my own soon and would like something other than my one credit card in case a high vet bill comes up.

Yes, it is. But they did say you have to use it atleast once a year to keep your account active. Thats why we also want it. In emergency cases, Its nice to know it will be there and your babies wont have to suffer just because of lack of money.

I feel like once a year shouldnt be an issue with my luck (LOL). I'm on the website now looking at FAQ and all that fun stuff. Do they have a minimum purchase amount? I'm asking because if I were to use it to get coggins pulled or something is that allowed? Paying for that isnt an issue, it would just be to keep the account active if needed.

That im not sure of, i havent gotten mine yet haha. But i know people that have used it for their dogs regular check up which normally arent that much so im guessing theres not a min amount.  Yea itll be easy for us around here too, between shots and teeth haha not to mention any thing else that wants to come my way!

When you call to try to get the limit increased, it asks you how much you need to cover whatever purchase you plan on making. I think I was originally approved for something like $1500, and after making a purchase and paying a lot of it off, I asked for an increase and now it's like $7500 I think.

If they only approved you for $500 right away when signing up, they won't likely approve you for an increase right away. It's just like any other credit card you would apply for. That's what they determine based on credit status, income, etc that they are willing to offer you right now. As with credit in general, pay it on time, and after time of proving you pay your bills, you they could increase your limit.

I dont think there is a minimum purchase. I'm pretty sure I used mine to pay for some dental bills and one was about $20, so I doubt it.

Care Credit is a special type of credit card where the office has to accept that method of payment.  You can't just use it anywhere.  However, you can use it at some "human health" providers as well.  So it's not just for pet and animal bills.

I LOVE Care Credit. I had a horse emergency that unfortunately left a $5k bill at the end of the week. I was told to call CC and not do it online. I was an upset mess on the phone, but they were so patient and helpful. They asked me how much I needed for this particular trip and I was approved for the exact amount to take care of the bill. I had 6 months to pay in full or would have to pay a large amount of interest. I would recommend them to anyone who has an animal!
