I recently found a 15 hand, 2 year old ApHC mare for sale in North Carolina. Reasonably priced. Looks to be mostly halter with some cow breeding but I'm not super familiar with Appaloosa lines. Super cute mare, really moves out nice and wants to tuck under herself and flatten her face in a stop. Looks to be pretty athletic and quiet. Has about 15 rides and looks soft in the videos I got. The girl that has her thinks she'll make a nice barrel horse (that's what she bought her for but decided to switch to cutting and this mare is going to be too big for that). The catch is I'm in Idaho so would be buying based off videos and pictures, and paying to ship her. Think shes worth taking a chance on?

You are probably going to be at least $1500 for shipping.  If you added that to your purchase price budget you might be able to get something closer that you can ride and see in person first.  I've bought plenty sight unseen, most have worked out.  I seem to have a better memory of my regrets than my successes though.

Top side is older lines that were pretty performers (back when horses did ALL the classes). The only one I have experience with is Prince Plaudit, and my son of his was not a speed horse, but one of the best horses I'll have in my lifetime.

The bottom side I'm more familiar with...old racing bloodlines that turned into halter bloodlines. I've ridden a lot of Goer grandget, and they are extremely smart but can be a bit fractious. You kinda have to do things a certain way. They'll either be the best horse you've ever had...or they hear voices in their head and you end up hating them.
Alias King was a very race bred horse...Alias Smith N Jones, Spotted Bull, that turned into a great halter sire by way of Dreamfinder, who was probably the most prominent sire in modern ApHC history. Think Impressive and AQHA, but without the massive genetic defect fallout.
