So I will be getting married in November, and I am planning to wear my boots with my dress. BUT.. my problem is, is that I have pretty thick calves and I cannot wear any high legged boots as they never fit, so I usually wear Justin Gypsy's. I usually wear socks with them when I ride or just wear them in general, but I see it with women all the time that wear boots with no socks (or appear as such) with dresses. When my socks slide down.. or if I try to wear my boots with low socks, they rub so bad on my legs. I do not want to go through this on my wedding day but I don't want to wear knee high socks either with my dress. I have looked around the internet but without much luck of anything other than wearing high socks.

I see women do it all the time, Any ladies out there know a trick to prevent rubbing/chaffing?

Could you try wearing nylons and see what happens?

They do make some super cute boot socks if there is no other remedy, I don't know if they stay up well because I'm one of those that were ankle socks with boots, but I have chicken legs lol. I'd try pantyhose/nylons

I wear crew socks with my Gypsy boots. They come just to the top of the boot and don't show. Mine are NO NONSENSE. I order them onlin.

I lined the top inner part of my boots with moleskin.  The inside part of the pull on loop rubbed my calf.    I'm not sure if that's the part that's bothering you, but it worked for me.

You can get some of those really cut lace things they wear around skinny jeans that show over the top of boots.  I think they are boot cuffs.

Nylons should help, or try body glide or something like that. I have THICK calves as well, and I've found that Corral boots have a pretty wide shaft. If you want to try a dressier pair of boots they might be an option! Or the "shorty" style boot is really in right now. They're even shorter than the Gypsy boots are. There are also people out there who customize boots. You can send them a pair of boots and they basically fold the tops back down over top of themselves and dress them up. I can get you some contact info if you're interested!

That is an awesome idea (for me, anyway)!

Thank you ladies for the ideas!!

I like the ideas for the cuffs, and the knee high stockings.

Rodeo, where do you get the moleskin? That is where the boots rub me in the top portion on the inside where the loops are. Drives me nuts!

You can get it at Walmart or Walgreen's.  If I remember correctly, it's by the shoe insoles.  Or maybe by band aids.  It has adhesive backing and is soft and fuzzy on the other.  Feels much better than that loop against your calf.

Thank you for the info!! After much consideration, I think I am going to go with the boot cuffs. There are so many cute designs!!

I would wear crew socks as someone suggested before! The higher boot socks look cute too. This may sound weird but I wonder if bag balm or something similar would help with things sliding past each other instead of chafing? I've used it in between my thighs when a certain pair of shorts caused it.

I feel your pain, I too have rather thick calves and still have difficulty with the sock thing with my boots. With me it helps to have shorter boots first of all. Mine hit around the mid calf and I usually wear shorter ankle socks. First of all it pads my ankles, and I dont have it rubbing my skin. To have a taller sock would only rub my calf raw.

Ankle socks, then put band-aids on the inside of your boots where they are rubbing.  Baind aids go on boots, not on your skin, so they can stay there indefinitely for future wear.

You might try rubbing liquid bandage like Nu-Skin on the spot it rubs. I have not done big spot like legs, but have used on toes where sandals rub a bad spot, and it helps.

Tough it out. Your legs will quit chaffing after awhile. I go around in shorts and boots without socks all the time. The first few days of summer are uncomfortable, but after that, I'm good.

never wear knee socks now, winter or summer - can't stand them... I wear those ones that come to the ankle socks I guess what they are called.   I have thick calves also -

I thought about bag balm too. It's my go to for most everything. But for a weeding though I'm not sure. It will be greasy and smells pretty bad. I love the cute lace boot socks.
