I need a new bit option for my gelding. He's a stiff horse to begin with. Turns on his front end. He rates himself. He'll turn regardless if I drop my hand or not. He runs in a ring snaffle and when not being ran he's in a draw gag. What bits could possibly help? Thanks!!

I would go for a Little S hack for a horse like that. It will promote bend and not get in the way of a ratey one.

You are confusing your horse by switching bits ...

The gag puts more pressure on his corner lips which is how a snaffle
works...
Then you change to his running bit which is less pressure ...
so he is running free and doesn't know what you want to do ..

Learn to lift and use a snaffle on the left and right rein to
hold a horse off a barrel with the inside rein with slack in the
outside rein or move horse over in either direction ..

Normal switching is going to a harsher bit just as a tuneup
the day before the race to get their attention and then back
to using their everyday bit ..

Sherry Cervi is a master at doing this ....
watch her hold any horse she rides off the barrel with the inside
rein and the cue to turn is when she gives slack to that inside
rein while continuing to use it to bump her horse on around the
barrels with slack in the outside rein ..

It takes a quick set of eyes to see her reach down the inside rein
to shorten it up again as she runs to the next barrel ..
she does it when she switches to ride 2 handed ...
