Hi guys,
I was wondering what you use to cure girth itch? My mare came back from my trainer with some girth itch on her girth area. I found some pink fungicide ointment to use at CAL Ranch and it seem to get it mostly cured. However is it possible for girth itch to spread to other areas on her body? It appears she might have it on her withers area now? I've never really had girth itch on my horses so I'm a newbie at treating it!
She was wormed towards the beginning of June. She does seem to have sensitive skin based on bumps she gets from bug bites.

I would keep treating with an antifungal spray. really, any spray will cure it. You can also bathe her in an antifungal shampoo to rid any other spots of infection. Absorbine fungasol, Eqyss MicroTek, Shapley, and E3 are all good choices for this. Vetricyn works well for itchy/dry skin and to treat symptoms of allergies. Be sure that since her skin is already dry you spray her down after her bath with some Pepi conditioner to replenish some moisture to her skin. Or whatever it is you use for a skin conditioner. Otherwise a bath may make her skin worse since you are stripping all the oils off the skin with an antifungal
Have you thought about maybe putting this horse on a supplement for allergies to help with the reactions? I know many on here have had great luck with certain feed throughs.
