My yearling filly is turning out to be a blue roan. Her sire is gray and dam is red roan. She started getting the zebra leg stripes and now has stripes on her barrel and neck as well. I have never seen a horse with so many stripes but am starting to read it's a roan trait. Thoughts??

A lot of duns and red duns have stripes on their legs, but the only ones I've heard of having stripes on their barrel (or other parts of their body) is sometimes chimeras I think have them--makes them look like they are brindle. Edited to say the posters below are absolutely right, also line-back and also grullas....I think my brain was m.i.a. when I typedthe first part of my post.

Think dun or grulla .. these colored horse breeders treasure the ones
that show up with stripes and bars !

I have a dun paint and when he was younger he used to have the stripes on his belly, theyve went away as hes gotten older but he still have his stripe down his back and on his legs. The tips of his ears are also darker too. I just love when they come out in the summer.

Something about her face makes me think she's going to gray.
She could do both. I know a horse who was born grullo but also had the gray gene and she just kept getting lighter and lighter and now you can't tell she was ever grullo.
One way to tell is roans change seasonally but they don't get lighter with age. My dark bay roan looks plain brown during the winter and then roan in the summer. He's 18 now and we've had him since he was 4 and his color hasn't changed at all.

She has change colors 5 times since January so that's what makes me think gray as well. Plus the light rings around her eyes.

Theres a facebook group for people with these horses. Wanted to add, most people with horses like this claim the stripes disappear when exposed to sunlight for long periods and claim they darken when kept inside. Check it out! https://www.facebook.com/groups/160510104117749/
