Currently have a big long strided gelding that has a roll back style turn. He really gets hung up on the back side when he sits and comes back over himself. Almost as though he is gathering himself to push off, but it is to the point where he stops.

What are some exercises that can help the roll back style turn to get in and out smoothly?

My horse runs like that and I do know I have to take him way past the barrel, until his hip clears then let him turn usually it gives them more room to keep them from hanging up. Barrel drills sure as four or five barrels do some counter arching to get him lighter .

Change your approach. When you brace up they brace up. To straight. Big horses need room. Flatten the horse out. Turn.them.off your foot not leg. When you raise up.They will also.Rate position changes teach horse to settle at the turns and give ground. Step around the barrel.
