My horse when I try to collect and round him up on the right lead he does great. When we lope to the left you can feel some resistance and he breaks to a trot stutter steps and then picks the lope right back up on his on. He doesn't hold the lope long before he does it again. I just brought him back up a few weeks ago so he is not fit yet and yesterday was the first time I tried it. I noticed he is also holding his head high at a lope since I brought him back up. I didn't turn him out for unsoundness or soreness. I just didn't have time to ride. Thoughts?

My first thought is he's just fat and out of shape and he just needs to be legged up. I would keep an eye on him and make sure he's not giving any indications of pain. If he's still doing it once you've got him legged up I would contact a chiro and if that doesn't help go to a good vet.

Left lead, right stifle or could be hock. He is also out of shape, leg him up slow and use bigger circles as in 100' circles and lots of straight lines.

Thanks! I am wondering about his hock now. We did inject the right hock a few years ago because he was showing signs of arthritis. The way he carries his head bugs me too but he is so willing it's hard to know if it pain or what.
