I have a 4 year old who is amazing in every way....except the first barrel. She will shake her head going around it, every.single.time. I'm at a road block. She is to nice to give up on. Firewater Flit/Frenchman Guy mare. She is still clocking with the first barrel issue so I know she will be at the top if I can get this fixed. Teeth are good, have been done. Has been vetted, no pain issues. Had her at the chiro less than a month ago, nothing major. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

What type of bit do you have on her when you run? My one gelding I use to run was like your mare, would shake his head when we got to his pocket. it was like he would get mad when I would ask him to rate, he didnt like me to ask him to slow down, he was a free runner, but never ever shaked his head at the second and third barrel was always the first. I used a short shanked Sherry Cervi dog bone on him and this help with the shanking of the head when I went to this bit.

Take it out of her mouth and put it on the nose.Learn to use your feet more. What we have today is a horse with shallow mouth. Many of them there's not enough room in their mouth for a mouthpiece. It hurts they become anxious resist and some shake their head. Probably now your horse is running harder to the barrel and you may be pulling a bit more. That can add to the problem. Hackamore and use feet more. I ride several with a problem like this. Clampitt Hackamore I use them on many. Most of the ones I get here come with problems Why is the problem. What do you do to solve. How do you get the problem solved.

I have ran her a few times in a rope nose hack. The first time was amazing, second and third run were crap with her still shaking her head and not having a good second and third. Do you think the chain hack would be different? I'm really open to any ideas. I'm lost for ideas.

I'm trying to get a video to my computer that I can upload but I'm not having any luck lol.

Is your hand placement different going to the first vs the second and third?

I run my mare in a S hack for this reason. She does not want to be touched, especially at the first barrel. Send her in, hand down, sit and let her work. When I get real handsy, heavy or try to hold her, she'll start getting peeved and shaking her head.

I am not saying this is your problem, just my head shaking experience.

Following...my mare does the same thing but around 2nd and 3rd.  If i just lightly bump her around the barrels she's better, but when your running faster it's hard to bump...LOL  I run her in a tender touch bit and that seems to work the best, but still happens.  Hopefully someone here has some suggestions.
