I have to brag just a little on my baby---he had fish scheduled for this am to open the plant. Had to load out at 4:30 this morning. They seined yesterday in between the monsoon rains, and the seiner said he estimated there would be between 20 and 25000 lbs after they graded out. I was terrified there wouldn't be enough fish; plant wanted 25 but preferred to have 30000 on the truck this am. (Chan's fish have been grading TOO good lately ) I woke up every few minutes the closer it got to 4 am. . . . My text went off at 5:11----32290 lbs of 1.5 to 1.75 lb fish. Y'all, I prayed over the size and amount of those fish so much the past two days it's been unbelievable---I felt like the fish and loaves parable in real life!!! I'm so thankful our God listens and answers prayers. Chandler has several hundred thousand pounds he needs to sell before December, so I'll be sending up more of those fishy prayers soon!!!

That is a lot of fish! How can they grade too good? Glad he did so well.

Well, that's a "happy" fish tale.  Good for Chandler.

I was being sarcastic about the "grading TOO good"!!! He had a pond about 6 weeks ago and we just KNEW there were 20000 lbs in there ready to go. Welllll, overnight the fish we thought were the perfect size got out and he ended up with 7000 lbs----sock was wrong size and fish were also just a touch smaller than we thought. As you can imagine, the plant was beyond unhappy! The seiner called and explained but they were still M A D!!!

This plant yesterday wanted a little smaller fish, which shocked me cause usually they want 1.75 to 2 lbs. Since it is so stressful on fish to be seined and then held overnight in this hot, humid weather with low low oxygen levels, Chan and the seiner made a scary decision----to sein the pond as usual but only keep roughly 30000 and turn the others loose. This is not normal!!! Normal is to sock all the fish you've pulled up and then let them grade out, depending on the size of the sock. So I was a pessimist and just KNEW he would be short by thousands of pounds. And God blessed my baby and it worked out perfectly with those 32290 pounds

The big fish (usually over 2 pounds roughly) are called "gut fish" and mainly go to Asian markets. You use certain size socks depending on what pound fish the plants want. The smaller fish can get out thru the net.

Hadn't heard he's raising fish - tell us more?!

My family used to farm over 400 acres of catfish, but got out several years ago when the market went haywire. Chandler wanted to do this since he was big enough to walk, but we hoped he would change his mind. Yeah right! He started with his first pond when he was in the 10th grade. The next year he built his own fry pond, and then when he graduated he was up to 6 ponds. Now he has 8. . . . Lord help us, I don't think he's gonna change his mind

He is a good kid---he's my heart and soul, and I can't imagine my life without him in it. But he's also headstrong and a mess!!!! He and Lula Bell have been together over 4 years (he was 15 and she was 16). Their plan is for her to graduate before they get married (nurse anesthetist), so I sure hope they stick to that plan!

Thank you to all of y'all that listen to my brags on my baby and then say good things about him. Makes my heart happy

Don't you dare stop! Y'all have listened to me brag on mine..I for one love hearing success stories about all of our kids! There is no better feeling than looking at our kids and being able to think that no matter what else we screwed up in our lives, our kids turned out amazing. It's such a nice change to read about young people doing GOOD in this world.

That is fabulous news!! A financial, and confidence, boost for him! I'm sure fish farmers or ranchers (not certain of the terminology) have to sometimes rely on their gut as much as any other farmer/rancher. His gut call paid off!

Keep bragging on that man..both he, and you, have earned that!

Yes mam, farmers, be they fish, cattle, or row crop, have to go with their gut. As most everyone on here knows, farming is one of the biggest gambles in the world. (I just worry his gut at 19 isn't old enough to know enough yet .)

I truly appreciate y'all letting me talk about my baby and his "adventures" on here
