Yep, expecting possibly up to 25".   Last storm like this we had 18" in one night.   After the microburst and power was out for 5 days my husband had a backup geteator put in our house.   It is hooked up to our propane tank and comes on automatically if the power goes out.   He built our barn up high on a pad so hopefully it will stay dry. I have offered my hay barn for anyone needing to move horses

Thats so kind of you Nancy to offer your barn to others that may need the help..Glad to hear that your all set up and dont have to worry about losing your power. We are very lucky we are set up high so dont have to worry about the flooding.  We have alot of low water crossings so they well be flooded for sure.

I've moved all pasture horses up close to the barn and I'm going today to put gas in the trailer. Electricity is or biggest concern- we live in the sticks and a small spring breeze will knock our power out!!

The biggest treat is flooding, it is suppose to make landfall early Saturday am and sit over us thru Wednesday.  Predictions are possibly 30" in some areas :(.

Thanks Roxie! I will Google.
And in the mean time I need to call a few friends and make sure they're prepared...

We live on the top of a hill so I don't think my barn will flood. I do need to get some shingles for the dogs houses that are outside tho. They may appreciate a dry place to lay lol

How have you prepared? I can't remember how you have your place set up...
Are you good? Do you need anything?

But its all good for us, my son is coming to pick up Sterling after he gets off of work so we dont have to worry about her out here just in case..Horses will be fine just going to get really wet thou. We got this I think

Prayers for all of y'all in the path of Harvey. Be safe!! We are up near the Red River, and just expecting a lot of rain, maybe minor flooding. I know most of y'all are prepared and use good common sense, but I still worry about people and especially their animals after something like this.

You would think they would have cancelled by now, They are predicing Harvey could reach being a categorie 4 befor land fall, not worth it having a rodeo in something thats unpredicable as a hurricane thats coming in.

We live just west of Houston.  My husband just sent me a text he received from a co worker.  This storm is expected to be much worse than being reported with some counties receiving up to 50" of rain over 5 days. South of Katy will be a disaster with 1000's of homes underwater and tens of thousands will have flood damage .
Some coastal counties have already been declared disaster.   During Allison more people died from heat stroke trying to leave at the last minute and runnng out of gas, no water in our 100+

I'm on call this weekend and am worried I may get flooded out and unable to drive into the clinic. I may have to spend the night here. Not wanting to but we have patients in house and we take evacuees so....blah.

My dad works in Victoria but should be able to get home by Tomorrow morning to weather the storm with my mom and sisters who are in Wharton... about 2 hours NE of Corpus. I'm in Waller county which is also one of the counties declared as in a state of emergency. Not looking forward to this weekend and what may be in store.

From

I just got off the phone with a buddy (who I have not spoken to in some time) who left me a voicemail on my cell instructing me to call him back. His father is Steve Radack, who is the Harris County Commissioner for Precinct 3. He said that Army Corps. of Engineers and every flood control district within Houston had an emergency board meeting this morning. Mr. Radack was briefed on their findings and has relayed the following information to my friend, who just told me the following:

Harvey is supposed to be much worse than expected, and worse than Allison. At this moment, they are projecting 10,000 homes under water and approximately 100,000 flooded homes around the Houston area. Colorado County is projected to get 50+ inches of rain, with surrounding counties taking on over 30+ inches. The storm is expected to hit the “heart of Houston” and everything South of Katy is expected to be devastated, including Galveston. The storm is projected to last for 5 days, moving very slowly, and most of Houston is expected to go 3 days without electricity. Put differently, according to the findings of this emergency meeting, the storm is supposed to be “catastrophic.” There remains a possibility that it becomes a hurricane by the time it makes landfall.

The projections that are out on the local stations right now are allegedly 1/3 of the reality of the situation in an effort to curb widespread panic. He also told me that FEMA and the National Guard are already in NOLA in case there is a repeat of 2005, or something similar.

Harvey is supposed to arrive in Houston sometime late afternoon/evening on Friday. If this information looks to remain accurate over the next 36 hours, you might want to consider making arrangements to work from home on Friday.

I will let you know if I am made aware of any other relevant inside information. Be safe.

Thanks for posting this Nancy, this is alot more serious than what it looks like right now, its going to be a horrible weekend and week with all this rain thats going to sitting over us. Prayers for everyone thats going to be having to deal with this Hurricane and the aftermath of it.

Aww, thanks Roxie. I am taking a break from preparations. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers, they are mightily appreciated. With elderly and injured/sick family members we are hunkering down and have turned all the horses into the brushy pastures in hopes that they will have some kind of wind break. Luckily, our place is on a little hill. Well, a flatlandets kind of hill.

My mom and grandparents live in Victoria... my mom evacuated with her dogs but my grandparents refuse to budge even with the mandatory evacuation. They have my old 33 year old roping horse and pony at their house. I wish they would let me get a friend to pick the horses up and take them somewhere safe but they are extremely hardheaded and think that they will be ok since they have lived in their house for 40+ years. Hopefully they will stay safe, I can't do anything living in Wyoming :(

Prayers for you as I know being so far away is so difficult:( so glad your momma and her dog were able to get out.I always fear for the ones who won't leave.

Harvey is coming in right over Victoria and suppose to stall out in that area, so Victoria is going to get hammered really bad, hope that everyone uses their commen sense and dont but themselves or anybody else in danger.. Coming home tonight after eating a late supper and going down highway 123 was a mad house, tons of boats and rv's were being towed by everyone that was evacuating the coast getting to higher ground..

I know , just going to be really scary for everyone, I just pray theres not going to be any deaths from this hurricane..
I can understand why some dont leave been there a few times myself growning up in hurricane prone areas. But now adays the old timers are the ones that will be better perpared and know the lay out of the land. I just hope the ones staying have the means of taking care of themselves if they cant get out for 3 or 4 days.

My mom is in Seadrift but she left today. We have sat out a few of these but nothing this big. I would not be surprised if it levels her house. The amount of rain fall they are predicting is insane.

Prayers for everyone, especially the people in Victoria. We have good friends there and they won't evacuate because they don't want to leave their livestock. They are afraid if they leave it will be awhile before they can get back home. What if their animals need them, down fence, water well needs repairs, that kind of thing, is what worries them.

They canceled our High school and Jr. High Rodeo. Now the decision if we need to evacuate or we far enough out to stay and be ok. We live on the Texas La line just outside of Beaumont.

IRunOnFaith - 2017-08-24 1:49 PM Roxie, is the storm supposed to stall out over North Texas or South Texas or where? I haven't watched TV in over a week and had no idea we were supposed to be getting storms.... I live under a rock sometimes...
Suppose to stall out over South Texas from Houston all the way past Corpus Christi, going to be some bad flooding happening all around us, Harvey is really buliding up.. watch the weather Channel its got some good details going on.. The stalling part is what has got me worried..

Awww Thanks for asking, but we are up on a hill so we dont have to worry about high water around the house, we have a creek that runs threw the front here and I'm sure it will be running, so we will be locked in but got plenty of food and eggs for sure my hens been laying like crazy lol..Going to bring the welder up here to use as a generator if we need it.. But its all good for us, my son is coming to pick up Sterling after he gets off of work so we dont have to worry about her out here just in case..Horses will be fine just going to get really wet thou. We got this I think

I just love Sterling's name. It's precious.

How's it looking this morning? Everything still fine at your casa?

Praying for all BBs involved.

I had looked for a live stream but nobody had one set up. Port O'Connor does and things look windy but did not see any surge yet. And they just upgraded to cat 4.

Rock port and Corpus seem to be getting all the wind but Port Lavaca is getting the storm surge.

I am very fortunate to be on the south west quadrant of this storm. We are west of Corpus Christi and have only had a little over an inch so far and regular high winds do far, but we are on the weak side of the storm. Sending prayers out to the people northeast of Corpus and up into Goliad up to San Antonio as they are also going to get hammered with very high winds and LOTS of rain. Sounds like the Houston area is already getting lots of rain, too.

Yes, there had been plenty of warning and multiple offers to help move and house livestock.  I understand having large numbers of cattle is difficult to move but there is really no excuse not moving your horses.

This flooding is going to be caststrophic on the dirty
and clean side of the storm.   Since it is hitting landfall south of us and then just sitting, the rivers and tributaries are going to be full causing flooding up here and down south of us, no where for the runoff to go :(.

:).  All my animals are up out of the weather, my house and barn both built up 4' and I am not in a flood plain although the back of my property is.  I would be lying if I said I was not getting nervous.   If the rains happen in the amounts predicted there are going to be areas flooding that people thought could never flood.  My heart already hurts for those  who loose their homes to floods and have no flood insurance because it has never been needed before. We do not have flood insurance :(.

Bear - 2017-08-24 8:22 PM We live 1/2 hour south of Austin, and I'm stuck working in the ER in Minnesota till tomorrow. Carol is stuck at home with a bad ankle. My flight arrives in Austin around 4:30. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get home ahead of the bad stuff.

Doc did you make it home?

I've been wondering too.and also casualdusts parents and family.

It's was a car wash and there is a storm chaser that was hiding in it. He is now trying you find a way out from what I understand. Unfortunately we lost the feed.

Just talked to my grandparents in Victoria, their house and my moms next door seem to be ok. They have lost a bunch of trees and the barn that had horses in it was leveled. The horses are ok and the barn was insured so they will rebuild in time. Now for the flooding

It is pouring bucket fulls here in Huntsville right now.  I have no television and can't get facebook.  I hope all on here are okay so far.  I have lots of family in the El Campo area and have not heard from them.  El Campo is in Wharton County and about 13 miles from Wharton.  Prayers for all.

We are up to 7" and it is suppose to pour all night. Areas only a few miles away have had 12". Lots of tornadoes in the Houston area but none near me. All animals are under cover and bedded down for the long haul. They are still predicting the storm staying until Wednesday.    We have a creek that borders the back of our property that catches all the runoff up stream and with the storm surge and flooding below us we are expecting our property to flood since the water has no where to go.   2 years ago we had 18" in one  night and the water did not get close to the house or barn so I think we will be ok.

I have had 7 1/2" so far.  Everything is good so far.  It stopped raining long enough for the creek to go back down.  I just feel so sorry for all that have been hit so hard by this hurricane.

Chandler's Mom - 2017-08-25 11:42 PM Oh dear Lord. . . How long are they predicting this thing will take to move thru?

Expecting it to not clear out till Wednesday

Praying so hard for all of you in the path. Am I understanding that it's coming on shore and then back out? Been concentrating on fish issues and just got to see a little Weather Channel today.

I have stalls, paddocks, arena, pastures. I also have 2 bedrooms, huge living room to bunk down in and a living quarters. I can and do cook very well. We are located in Minden La 5 min off interstate, about 3.5 hrs east of Dallas. I have provisions. If you are in need, load up and head this way. We can accommodate others as well via a generous caring horse community. Cat Tyler 318-268-6316.

As I said before, we have LQ for hauling or living in. I bet we can find horse space too. We're pretty far---about 6 hours NE of Dallas. . . . But willing to help. I will be honest since TH was--I don't cook much but I'm a great food orderer and picker upper

I know it's supposed to get rough here after midnight. Are Stacy and JL home, or are they traveling?

They are home last I heard.

We are fine but this is going to be beyond devastating.   Areas are flooding that have never flooded so people were not prepared.  Numerous mandatory evacuations. First responders are flooded in, others can't get to stations to replace them.   They are asking for boats and fuel, gas stations are empty.  Now saying rain is going to continue beyond Wednesday.

My parent's house has a lot of water around it but isn't close to coming inside the house or barn. We have a slough that fills with heavy rains and a pond that temporarily holds water.. all of that is full right now.

My neighborhood in Magnolia is barricaded in- the road leading in and out of it is closed with water on it. No water is close to coming in our house. I'm not sure what's going to happen within the next few days. I wasn't able to drive into work this morning so one of the other doctor's had to drive in for me. I will owe him a weekend for sure.

What makes me nervous is so many of the bigger roads are closed/flooded so I'm not sure where all people are going to evacuate to now that they are deciding to leave. I mean heck if we wanted to leave our neighborhood we couldn't... weather forecast has a 100% chance of rain through Wed, 90% Thurs, and 80% Friday. IDK what this area will look like after that. I haven't lived in Magnolia very long.

We lost a run-in shed....thrown about 30 feet and flipped upside down. Horses and cows sink up to their hocks in some soft spots. Road closings all over hell.
A neighbor said we've gotten 16" so far, according to his rain gauge.
We are supposed to get 5" today and another 5-8" tonight. The extended forecast for us, according to Weatherbug is for rain and thunderstorms up through next weekend every day. We could easily get 30+" when its all said and done.

I have been watching some coverage on tv of people and their pets being helped from their flooded homes.  They just didn't believe it could get this bad so didn't leave.  I can hardly believe what I'm seeing.  Farms and neighborhoods totally under water.

I looked up road closings in Bastrop county and there are dozens of them. I bet at least 50.

I tried to drive to the clinic to help with afternoon feedings and clean stalls.. Made it farther than I did this morning but still had to turn around. 1488 was under water and looked like a river was running through it.

This morning we had water up to the horse pens and water around one of the barns. About a foot of water under my trailer. So we were able to hook up and get the horses up north. They are in on high dry land and in stalls. So they are put away nicely. They are saying for our creek here to crest tomorrow but I don't see how since we keep getting rain.
So far my house is good and no water in the barns.

The internet went down when ole harvey blew into our part of the woods, we had really high winds 60 to 65 plus blowing with rain early in the morning and all threw the day and night was not a good feeling I thought as far off the coast we were we would not be getting really high winds, lost 2 of our big big Oak trees up front, one was up rooted ground got soft and the other one the top broke off, just sick over them, last year lighting took out 2 big ones. So far we have gotton 8 inchs of rain and that is nothing compared to Houston.. But we are doing so much better then the Houston area, those poor people...Thanks for asking.. :

There was 1 fatality due to a house fire during the height of the storm. There were 8 families from an RV park unaccounted for but they are hoping they evacuated. I haven't heard anything more about them. Rockport has been declared uninhabitable and people may only be in Rockport from 7am to 7pm to move their stuff out of homes and businesses. My BIL lives in Rockport but left before the storm. He went back today to start cleanup on his business. The metal mechanic shop was pretty damaged but his house only had a saddle pad sized water puddle in the eating area. He said the well built houses were fared pretty well, but the older ones and metal buildings suffered a lot of damage. He said there was not one single fence left in Rockport, nor did any of the tree have any leaves. Lots of downed power lines and trees and tree limbs down.

This is a post from FB:  We are pulling boat out of water for the night. It is total darkness and too dangerous and We are exhausted. Today was a day I will never forget. People separated from their families in total panic begging you to find their children or spouse. People begging to rescue them but you can't because the boat is full. It is total and complete devastation. As I was coming in from last rescue I felt terrible because their are thousands more that are going to have to wait it out through the night. I  am going back in the morning. If you have a boat and want me to show you how to get down their pm me.

and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Reports are predicting another 25" of rain before this is over.   I sm sick to my stomach over the devastation this storm is causing.

I have not seen one person yelling and screaming that they need government help NOW. Instead msg people are hugging the ones rescuing them. I think the water here came up very fast early this morning. Have a friend whose niece drove into high water at 5 am and was not rescued until mid morning. We are just strong people here but really need some prayers right now.

If anyone wants to help after the storm has passed there will be a great need for hay and feed I'm sure. My house still dry but moved horses, dogs and cattle because we will flood from the river. I'm keeping my horses at Fairgrounds and they are bringing rescues in that will need hay at least. As I was feeding mine this morning I had to find water buckets for animals I saw brought in yesterday that still had no water. Going back later to see if feed store is open. It's only going to get worse.

They've closed the road my parents live on because of run off from pastures. So far their house and barn is still high and dry, and she said it would take a lot more rain before they flood. I've had a sad morning with some farm calls that didn't end well. And one of my horses at my parents house sounds like she's got a hellacious hoof abscess (I hope). Thankful she's not colicking because theres really not much way for them to get her out and I can't get in...almost sounds silly to even mention it because its such small potatoes compared to what other people are dealing with. We are housing four of my neighbors horses who's property is under water. Their house is on stilts and is so far OK but they may evacuate if it gets much higher.

It is almost beyond description the devastation that is happening.  I am wondering what percentage of houses are flooding in Houston, estimates are it is more than 300,000.  The out pouring of support had been amazing, the "Cajun Navy" had arrived with boats to help rescue, EMS from all over to come help.   They are now having to release water from reservoirs to save the integrity of the ****s so now homes that have not flooded yet will flood from the releases.   They are calling for mandatory evacuation from these neighborhoods but the rads are flooded and people can't get out.   There are many towns surrounding he Houston area that are also flooding.

Here is a video of my place this morning.   Steady rain so far today, almost 4" so fa fir a total of 22".   He water  is still a long no way from the house and barn.

Theres people from the Seguin area and other local towns that are taking their own boats to all the flooded areas helping the flood victums to get out, these people even in their wildest dreams never ever thought this was going to happen, their homes and land never had been flooded, but now with water being releasted from reservoirs theres going to be alot more homes and land flooded and more rain on the way. There was no way of knowing it was going to be this bad, they knew it was going to be a major flood event but not like this, this is a flood thats going down in history a flood that has never been seen like this.. In all the time that the reservoirs were build this is the first time they are having to release water to save the Dam's. And now the rivers are fixing to let loose and this adds even more problems to the problems. :(

Any other updates on your grandparents?

People in Corpus and surrounding towns are collecting donations of money and goods for the victims of this terrible storm. I took all our
food, water and other supplies I stocked up on to a donation site.
Our local livestock auction has canceled their weekly sale in order to house evacuee livestock. I am blown away at all the people taking their boats up to help with the rescue efforts. There are a lot of good folks out there. I thank everyone who has offered help and prayers to us in South and Southeast Texas. This going to be such a long recovery for Southeast Texas.

I know this is a long shot but I have several pastures with barns that are setting empty right now if anyone needs to move horses to Oklahoma for a bit (we are 30 miles SW of Tulsa...about 4 hours from Dallas).  I know that's a long drive but if anyone needs that you can message me.

List your horse or trailer and help flood victims.

I've asked our staff to set up our barrel horse ads and horse trailer ads for the remainder of the week, so $10 of your ad will go to Samaritans Purse

Thank you for helping these horses. If you need some money towards feed for them im a PM AWAY.

Same here---and you're an angel

They have a few donations in hay and feed. Will probably need more depending on the number of rescues that come in over the next few days. I will get with the Brazoria County people running the shelter and find out if they have a way to take donations. Anything will be appreciated because it will be awhile before many can go home. We have had rain all day. Angleton has a levee around the town but after my last trip out to my place today I'm worried about it. We need a day of relief tomorrow. My house will most likely flood tonight but at least all horses, cattle and dogs are safe for now. It's just unbelievable this is happening. We flooded last June and it was the 1st time our home ever flooded. But then it was just a few counties nothing like what's happening now. Can't even comprehend what the aftermath will be. Thanks for the prayers for our state and people.

Alrighty fellow Louisianians, Harvey is coming here, prepare to move your ponys, dogs, etc if you even think you may be in the line of fire because it's gonna get quite ugly real quick. Don't wait till roads are impassable. I can help move some animals if need be.
I still have accommodations, two bedrooms, big living room, horse trailer with living quarters. I can accommodate up to 10 horses, and some dogs and cats. I have access to a whole community of like minded generous souls willing and able to provide shelter and such.

The 10 Dollar donation per ad that Gail and Dave are doing for the Harvey flood includes all ads thats on this site, so if you got something to sell Tack, Trailer, Horses, Supplements get them up this week, they are going to be doing this all week, the more new ads that go up the more they can Donate..

mreklaw - 2017-08-28 9:51 AM If anyone wants to help after the storm has passed there will be a great need for hay and feed I'm sure.

Please keep us posted.  I have a flat bed hay trailer that can hold up to 125 bales.  If there is a need we will bring a load.  Let me know - thanks.

Thank you. We will be land locked here til the river starts going down. We have a levee around our town and hopefully it will hold. There will be a need all over for hay. A lot will lose what they have in barns. Plus the longer it takes river to go down the grass is really nasty afterwards. Bless you all for thinking and praying for us.

Please keep us posted as to which way and where the convoy goes. I'm a long way away but I want to help so bad. And for LA folks that may need help---our offer still stands. Just PM me if you need anything and we will do our best for you. God bless this site and everyone that is helping.

If you need round bales of hay (Brome) to load on your trailer I have some I would donate and I can load it here at my place.  I just don't have a big enough trailer to make a trip worthwhile.  Gail should have my number or can message me here when you get more details and information.

Down here in Brazoria County some rivers still rising. The shelter at the county fairgrounds is full and animals still coming in. I spoke to Jessica Chase who is with Brazoria County Animal Shelter thru Agri-life which is a state agency. They have a phone # for donations 504-913-9441. Accept credit cards but no PayPal yet. She said you could also mail gift cards so they can purchase what's needed. Gift cards to TSC, Steinhausers, etc. That address is Texas A&M AgriLife, 21017 County Rd 171, Angleton, TX 77515
Attn: Jessica Chase. The mail maybe slow but many of these animals will be here for weeks. They have 400 bales of hay donated now but we can't get to it yet. The feed situation is going to get really bad because trucks can't get into replenish the feed stores. The local SPCA has over 1000 animals now due to rescues. They are also at the fairgrounds. I'm sure this is the same situation all up and down the coast. I heard Fort Bend County Fairgrounds is also sheltering and some animals not being taken care of so people that were there were stepping up to help with their care. With the rescues we don't know who some of them belong to.

An aircraft parts distributor in Wichita is collecting donations from all over the area and taking them to a point in Texas where they'll be needed.  From dogfood to diapers here they come...........my husband just bought a pair of rubber boots.  He will probably miss them.

She just called. She got out of there and is safe. She is staying at a house now and doesn't have electricity and her phone died on her. Was really worried because I had not talked to her since Monday.

I am so proud of all my fellow Texans, they all have helped other's in need of help getting out of the flood waters, the more I see the news and how everyone is banding together no matter the color or race they are all helping one another. Theres has been no reports of fighting, rape or trying to shoot anyone at all during this awful time, just helping hands, my hats off to everyone and so proud of Texas and all the surrounding States that have steped in to help. Did anybody see on the news of the human chain getting people out of their cars/truck in fast moving water? These people are just awesome humans

Oh I feel bad for you and your mother, I hope that you get to talk to her soon like today..Is she in that shelter that flooded?
She just called. She got out of there and is safe. She is staying at a house now and doesn't have electricity and her phone died on her. Was really worried because I had not talked to her since Monday.

I am so happy for you that you got to hear her voice finally..

Yeah this has been incredibly stressful. I have not spoken to my mother in 7 years if that tells you anything. I'm just sick over it all.

DaveM - 2017-08-29 12:24 PM  We are working with Ranchaid.org to organize a caravan down I-35 to Texas when the rain stops.  They will be needing hay, feed, halters, lead ropes, buckets, antibiotics, temporary fencing, and cattle cubes to name a few.  Much of the hay stored in barns down in the flood area will obviously be ruined and the flooded grass land will be a mess.  Many of the cattle and horses have been moved to temporary areas outside the flood zone and supplies will be desperate, I'm sure.  I'll keep posting as we get organized and you can decide what you can supply if you want to volunteer.

Dave Mattern

I'm just off the Mulvane turnpike exit and I have quite a few lengths of the white tape type electrical fencing with the posts included (temporary fencing). It doesn't necessarily have to be hot to keep animals in if they're not excitable. I'd gladly meet up with someone and send it on down the road with you.  I'll gladly throw in a couple bags of feed too.

If you need round bales of hay (Brome) to load on your trailer I have some I would donate and I can load it here at my place.  I just don't have a big enough trailer to make a trip worthwhile.  Gail should have my number or can message me here when you get more details and information.

Hi Penny - it's good to hear from you :) I just put you on the list. We are waiting for instructions from Ranch Aid on where and when to deliver hay.   Want to join us for the caravan?

?Everyone who can fill a truck or trailer with supplies is welcome to join us for the trek to Texas.   We won't be staying - just dropping supplies off and returning home.

My mother, sister & her kids, aunt, and cousin are land locked in Beaumont.

Mom, Aunt and Cousin are both on emergency respose teams with their hospitals so they can't leave even if they wanted to.  Their houses all are good with my cousin having water in his garage.

If any know injuries I can try to relay the message.  Facebook and cell phones are still up.

Amen to this

I live in Sealy about 20 miles west of Katy/Houston.  We only had 26" of rain, had about 70 acres covered in 2-3' of water but it never got close to the house or barns, we were pretty unscathed by Harvey.

The Colorado river has reached my parents property. So far it's creeped up to the bottom of the runs of the barn. Our house and barn are built up pretty high but lord I have no idea what to expect anymore...we live miles from the Colorado and when the city was briefed we weren't one of the areas at risk.

Not that it matters WHICH river but I think it's the San bernard flooding them not the Colorado. My dad was wrong..go figure...water still rising. House and barn still ok. In the AM when there's daylight we will try to move horses if we have to. I'm going to try and make it down even though I'm not sure how I will make it there.

I want to encourage all of you to think about contributing to the SALVATION ARMY. They get more done than anyone and are not out begging for donations. Check with a church near you. Don't forget there are other areas besides Houston. These include Port Arthur and Beaumont. Rockport, Port Aransas, and surrounding areas where the hurricane actually hit have been forgotten about and they are begging for help. South Louisiana is flooded also and many have had to evacuate. East Texas Baptist University took a collection to Houston our high school took up a collection to send with them. What I am saying is to try to find someplace to donate for some of these other areas.

this is so heartbreaking!!!! I live in a flood zone and I sometimes get flooded but at least the water moves out within a couple of hours once it stops raining! What is gonna be even worse than what they are going thru is the cleanup! and the damage is unbelievable. my trailer house we had it got 4 inches high in it and the mud is not the mud you see after a normal rain! there is just no cleaning it and the appliances and furniture and personal items there no saving them! the after math is gonna be crazy. And the people who have been out of work because of this or already living on a shoestring is gonna be so hard on them! But that water needs to move out so they can get started to rebuild and they will but it will be such a hard road!!! prayers and prayers!!!!!!

The Guadalupe river is doing really nasty things in Gonzales and Cuero and on down the river, not looking good for these fokes in these little towns. The Guadalupe runs right threw downtown here in Seguin and they did evaluate all the homes along the river here in town, they were worried it was going to be another flood of 1998, but we dodged the bullet on Harvey this time. All the rain that is casuing problems was down river.

Lots of supplys have been coming threw here heading up to all the towns that were flooded and people here in Seguin have been donating like crazy, waiting to hear if more clothes and whatever else is needed is going to be heading out again so we can get more packed up. and also wating to hear back from Dave and Gail.. But your right donate donate donate every little bit will count..

In Corpus, our Half Price Book store is asking for book donations for all of the people in shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas. You might check with any bookstores in your area to see if they are doing this too. I can't imagine being in a shelter with nothing to read or do.

The number of electric company trucks coming through Marshall is amazizing and heart warming. I know they are headed to Rockport/ Corpus. There were two federal game wardens in Subway Tuesday when I ate in there. I have only seen FEDERALgame wardens twice in my life. I think we forget about the wildlife trapped in this mess. These had on olive bullet proof vests. I think every boat in Arkansas has come through here too. Pretty amazing.

One other thing....many people were rescued with there pets and there is a need for cat and dog food. Pet shelters are overflowing too.

I am in Madisonville and did well with just a lot of rain.  But, I grew up in Nederland (Beaumont/Port Arthur area) and it is heartbreaking seeing all my hometown friends posting of their lost homes/cars/animals.  And the loss of paychecks!  Some have paid leave and will have jobs to go back to.  Some will get no pay and will not have a job to go back to.  When the waters recede, they will have no method of transportation, no shelter, no job.  Building supplies will be scarce and expensive.  Most don't have flood insurance, a lot of insurance companies quit offering the coverage.  A lot of people didn't think it was necessary since their area had NEVER flooded in the recorded history.  A lot of towns all over have motels full of families that escaped with just the clothes on their backs.  Madisonville has 3 motels and they are full.  Rooms have an average of 6 people in them.  Churches and restaurants are taking turns serving meals for the displaced.  Our church has an average attendance on Sundays of about 130 and is preparing to feed 200 tomorrow night.  This is a harsh, harsh time.

If I'm in town I would gladly load my trailer (either flat bed with hay or horse trailer with anything needed) and back seat of truck and caravan, yes.  If you go before I get back I do have someone that can still load hay for you to take.   Sending you a message privately with more information, on my schedule and number.

I received this email from SmartPak today:

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, we're thinking of all the riders we know and the horses and dogs we love down in Texas and the Gulf Coast. After all, supporting healthy horses and happy riders is what we're all about.
Like you, we've been incredibly touched by the stories of heroism and heartbreak in the affected areas, and our first thought was "how can we help?" That's why we're proud to partner with our friends at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) to donate financial support and products to the horses in need.

If you're looking for a way to help, we'd encourage you to donate directly to one of the disaster relief funds from a few of our partners, listed below:

AAEP's Equine Disaster Relief Fund
USEF Equine Disaster Relief Fund
PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund

Very sincerely yours,

I live on the flight path of Randolph Air Force Base out of San Antonio and they have been flying non stop helicopter's to all the flood zones doing all they can and more to help the flood victums. And lots and lots of loaded trucks with supplies heading their way also, San Antoino and Seguin and many many more are doing tons for these poor people, I love how everyone becomes one big Giant family to help in a disaster as horrible as this.

I am so sad to hear that more lives have been lost, they just found the bodies of 4 men who were trying to rescue a family, these 4 men were just good men trying to help with the rescues.. I feel so bad hearing this and how devastated their familys must be

I'm sure there are official drop off areas established at Red Cross locations and Salvation Army for example.

I am currently working with RanchAid.org to turn local horse trailer dealer locations into Distribution Centers.  They have people staffed, telephones and fenced secured areas and plenty of room for trucks and trailers to turn around.  I'll start providing a list very shortly.

Yes you have to be very carefull now on who to donate anything too, theres scam's already happening. Theres a few groups from here that I trust but they are only hauling clothes and food for humans, so waiting to see if I can donate money to Gail and Dave for the livestock when they get ready to haul to flood zones..

A good thing to know is they're usually inundated with used clothing.  On our local news tonight they designated a place where you could donate but asked "not" to bring clothes.   The list we were given at work included things like diapers and baby cleanliness products, clean socks and underwear, blankets, toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, dog food and cat food, water, canned food and canned soda preferably with the pull top lid openers, new pillows, toys, shoes, hard candy.  That's all I can remember but there's an idea.

Horse and cattle aid we are all pretty familiar with.

It's awful but this is surely true. I dropped off cat and dog food to our city drop area, but waiting to hear from our crew on here before doing money or TSC cards, etc for horses. . .

Kimmi Byler of horseswim.com.   She is the official animal rescue/resource for Austin County and is sourcing donations to the surrounding counties too. She has several teams that are scouting evacuated areas and rescuing stranded horses.  Prefiert has donated panels and her arena is now full of stalls where they trea t and care for the horses.   Check out her FB page, Kimmi Bartels Byler, they are treating all wounds etc, a tremendous effort.

This was her response when I tagged her I was going to fairgrounds to help feed horses there:

If any of those owners want to send horses here to be fed & cared for That can't be there to care for their Horses over the next week or longer they can send them in here - easier with my staff & I all living onsite - Princess +1 (832) 701-7591 our Equine Mgr can Coordinate pick up.

If you can help Marc gather and deliver this hay please respond. Houston Trailers owner knows them personally. They need square bales fast because they need to air lift by helicopter.

Attention: One load of hay and one load of straw donation available 30 miles east of St. Louis. If you have a truck and trailer and can deliver to Texas Ranchers in flood call 618-781-1440 and ask for Luke. He will load you out. Drop off will be arranged for you prior to your leaving, probably a horse trailer dealership in the affected areas.

Attention: 300 fresh round bales of grass hay donated in Durant, OK. If you have a truck and trailer to deliver to Texas Ranchers in flood, Stevie will load you out. Contact Stevie Hizer, 832-401-2485. Drop off will be arranged for you prior to your leaving, probably a horse trailer dealership in the affected areas.

Some hay is being air lifted once you get there.
