My yearling colt got a wire cut a month ago in his pasturn which then gave him a serious coffin joint infection. We did the gold standard of iv antibiotics for 3 weeks for him. I brought him home a week and a half ago and now he's getting bad abcesses. 3 out of 4 hooves have them and they are bad. Posting this question on here because my vet won't return my phone calls. Pretty frustrating. He's not in a wet pen or anything like that. Does anyone on here have experience to what maybe be going on? Is the remaining infection draining out his feet or...???

IV antibiotics aren't usually enough to treat a joint infection:/   Unless he did a tourniquet around the ankle and injected in the vein in the foot....or unless he tapped the joint and proved the WBC count was back to normal.

Something else may be going on- joint infections don't normally heal in 3 weeks:/
