They are quick to raise the alarm and very smart. |

Location: Somewhere around here | I've had both. One corgi, who was actually my husband's, and two miniature dachshunds. I like both breeds but corgis are much easier to train and are slightly more affectionate. My dachshunds are great at snuggling and protecting what's theirs but I'll never have one again after they pass. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | We have three dachshunds between me and my mother. I will never have anything else! Yes, they are slightly hard headed, but they are so loving and the greatest little family dogs. My nine month old son pulls on every available part of "Hank" and it never phases him. We haul him all over the world with us and have never had a problem. He sleeps under the covers in our bed, and makes every step I do. They are awesome little animals. I had a corgi once. I loved him. BUT... he barked at my horses and shed HORRIBLY. |

I love the Dachshunds, {the weiners} they dont shed and they are super loyal, the Corgis are too but something about the weiners I love, grew up having weiners in my life. I loove the weiners, I have two.. |

I'm glad to read this because one of my concerns with a weenie dog is how it would act with our future children. We don't have any kids currently but plan to in the future. Sounds like your doxies are perfect with your son! |

| I have a Dachshund Chihuahua mix and she is the sweetest, kindest, snuggliest thing ever and is fantastic with my 3 nephews that are under 7. She was incredibly hard to potty train but after that she really is the sweetest thing. She also doesn't shed which is awesome.
I haven't had a corgi so I can't say I'd have one over the other... I have just had a very positive experience with my little Chaweenie. :-) |

| How about neither and a "Shorkie" (Shih Tzu x Yorkie) instead! haha :) Not sure if you are looking for a family dog, but mine sure loves our 1 year old daughter. She doesn't shed, she isnt yippy, and she only weights 4lbs :) Bonus: A 12lb bag of dog food lasts me months!
Two of my best friends each have a Corgi and a Dachshund. I'd say I like the Dachshund more - he seems more independent, but is snuggly when he wants to be. It really depends what you're looking for I think.

I have a weenie pup. Sophie is the BEST little weenie pup ever. But once she passes (hopefully many many years from now!)...I likely will not get another weenie. There's no way another could fill her shoes. (paws). I know I'd be comparing them and that's not fair to the new one.
So...if you had a corgi you loved...and you are considering a weenie pup....I say go with the weenie pup for the variety. And they truly are sweet and awesome! |

| I had a Corgi some time ago and he was a great dog. I have a Mini Dachshund now and he is turning out to be a fun little dog also, so either way you cannot go wrong.
The big difference I'm finding in the two is that the Corgi was a lot more rugged. He was always out in the barn with me and went on trail rides and all. The weenie....well he is a bit of a weenie...LOL. He's more of an indoor dog because hes so tiny and I'm afraid of him being out around the horses and getting stepped on. But he is still a fun little dog.

Oh my goodness this is an excellent point... the corgis I see that I want look just like my old corgi (red headed tri with white markings). I'm afraid I would likely compare it to him because when I think of getting another corgi I basically want a repeat of him. So that could be a disappointment. I had a border collie as a child that I loved dearly but I never plan to own another one so I understand where you're coming from on this. Definitely something to consider.
Maybe I could get a weenie dog and fall in love with it to help heal my broken heart from losing my corgi boy and later I could think about a corgi. |

Location: TN | We visited some dachshunds in a rescue this evening and I fell in love with an adult deaf standard male (super chill and sweet!) and a 12 week old mini female puppy. The male is mostly house trained and the pup is pee pad trained. I've never had a deaf dog? Anyone have experience? Which would you choose?
I know the deaf male would fit in well with my two other dogs, but my concern is what if he gets out the door or gets away and can't hear me call him to come back? The puppy could be trained how I want her to be trained but she's a puppy and would likely annoy my older dogs I have currently. |

| My family has 6 Doxies total. They are such fun dogs and all have their own personalities which I love. Two of our dachshunds would rather stay inside, the rest LOVE the outdoors, from farm work, to horse shows, and even hunting. I have worked with my dachshund puppy on cues and he follows me well now and listens good. He loves horse shows and loves being down the barn with me and all of the horses are good with him. He also will follow me on my rides! lol Only cons of a doxie is they are hard to house train my puppy took about 4 months til he stopped completely but he also is still intact. Also not all of them like kids so expose them to kids early, out of our 6, 2 males don't really like kids and our one female doesn't, But the others love them! |

I've had 3 Corgis so far, all at different times. I lost the first one and didn't think I wanted another one, would compare to her too much. After about 2 mos, I just missed her so dang much & got a male instead & he was the sable. (first was red headed tri). After the last one got old & passed, I got another female, another tri. Each has had their own personality & I never once compared to the last one. I sometimes tell the current one that she has some of the spirit of the other 2 in her if she does something that reminds me of them. LOVE my Corgis. The one I have now hardly sheds at all - but have her on Taste of the Wild small breed, she gets coconut oil, and brewers yeast & I think that helps. |

Location: Texas | The corgis that I have had practically potty trained themselves, but that hair OMG! I had one mini dachshund for about a week and had to rehome him...he was given to me because he was impossible to potty train, and I just could not deal with it. My father-in-law had the sweetest standard dachshund in the world and I would have no problems having another like him, but he did shed. A LOT. I do not like yappy dogs, so some dachshunds are yappy-er that others. I loved the toughness of my corgis (but that hair!) I have a non-shedding terrier cross adopted mutt now and he is MR AWESOME! |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | My mom's rescue is deaf. She has worked with her a ton as far as hand signals- and obviously keeps her in a fenced in yard when she is outside. She has gotten away occasionally but always looks back at her at least once, and if you wave your hands she comes right back. If she doesn't look back - she just runs until you can get her attention. Kind of scary but it's been almost 9 years and their system has worked!
I always feel terrible scaring her when she is sleeping, I try to stomp lightly on the floor to wake her, or flick the lights to get her attention. Somehow you just make it work!

Location: Oklahoma | Chiweenie mix actually , if wanting a house dog , not as big as full Doxie , not as stubborn but still has a lot of Doxie traits , not as fragile as full Chi. More athletic than full Doxie , quite able to jump in vehicles , on bed ,brave, not loud ,very much lovebugs and friendly.
I like the mini Aussie/Corgi mixes too better than full Corgis for a smaller dog . |

| Hello! I don’t want to breed my Corgi either, although many love and want these puppies very much. but I think that if they want, they will find a bunch of people who do this and I don’t have to! where can I spay the dog in the USA? I would be glad if you gave the address, by the way, what do you use for zip code lookup? I need to know them for the navigator, https://worldpostalcode.com/ can I use it?

Location: Kentucky | My chiweenie is the best dog I've ever had! Super smart, loyal, and a very chill little dog. No yipping at all. He's flown on planes all over the country and people never even know he is in the carrier. At the same time, he loves doing chores and going to the barn. He has longer legs than a mini dachshund and I think this makes him a lot more athletic. He's also great with kids. |

Location: Montgomery TX | We got a mini-weenie in November - she is absolutely the best!! Super sweet and lovableand snuggly. She's not yappy and loves playing with the kids, they are 11 and 5 and I have multiple nieces and nephews of all ages coming and going and she gets along with all of them great. I worried about her being a farm dog, but she takes every step I take, whether at the house or around the barn. She follows me on trail rides, and if she gets tired, I load her up horseback. She loves to go - when she hears the truck or the ranger start up, she comes running to load up. We also have a yellow lab and the two of them are BFF's!!! |

| I have had both. I feel that Corgis are more willing to please than Dachshunds. I have trained 3 corgis to do many tricks. They always comply and want to do what you ask. My weenie dog wouldn't do anything you asked. He could care less if asked him to do something; he wasn't going to do it. I love both dogs, but corgis are my favorite. On a different note, I had a friend with a deaf corgi. She was dumped beause her owner discovered she was deaf. My friend picked her up off the side of the road and she was an amazing dog. She learned sign language and was a wonderful dog. The other dogs helped her some and she learned to look at her owner to get the command. It never slowed her down. |

Is there such thing as a Corkie? Sean's aunt was given a "Yorkie" because the breeder said she couldn't have puppies. I think it's half Corgi and half Yorkie, but she says she's all Yorkie! Grace is slung low to the ground and twice as long as she is tall with the rounded ears. |

| I have a mini dachshund and LOVE him!! He's short haired so minimal shedding. He is very well house trained, let's you know when he needs to be let out. Scratches on the door when he's ready to come back in. He's cuddly and loves to be with you any where you go. Fantastic with my kids (ages 5 and an infant). Likes to play when you are ready to. Will fetch, sits when asked. He likes to bark at the steers in the roping pen but doesn't chase them when being roped. Let's you know if strangers are approaching. He listens well. All around great dog. I do have to admit I admire the corgis very much and we've talked about getting one. The only set back is the thought of all that hair! |
