My mare has strained her tendon last weekend racing.  im looking at a long recovery process and have not rehabed a tendon.  i would like to invest in a good set of ice boots.  Do any of you have some recomendations of products or treatments that have worked for you to rehab a tendon?

i just  finished with one   runners releif for a few weeks then rest. monitored turn out and excercise . Im finally healed and back to riding in 5 months  completely healed   i would suggest an ultra sound every month or so to make sure it is healing fine

I dealt with one about 7 years ago now, but Silver Lining Herbs had/has a Tendon Relief Gel that I used pretty religiously. But right away she was in a soft cast of DMSO and Furazone.
After the rehab process got Iconoclast Boots, which were at the time just coming out.
We always dealt with that leg getting 'puffy' here and there years after the injury but she was never lame on it.  I did use Back on Track and PHT pretty religiously, and poultice.

Now a days, if it had happened I would focus more on internally healing I think. Since finding Cur-OST a few years ago I haven't deal with any puffiness in that leg at all.

ETA: I did have ultrasound check ups through out her rehab, and did a round or 2 of shockwave, I can't remember exactly.

My horse is in recovery now for the deep digital flexon tendon However he had surgery to clean out some lesions also that they found on the sheath. Discharge instructions from Tufts:  8 weeks stall rest , week 1, 2-3 minutes hand walking once a day,  week 2, 2-3 minutes twice day, week 3, hand walking on flat even service 10 minutes, week 4 same 15 minutes, week 5 same 20 minutes, week 6 same 25 minutes, week 7 same 30 minutes week 8 hand exercise with ground poles (4 at horse length) for 30 minutes. at the 4 week span Polygylcan injection in digital tendon sheath. I also am to ice for 25 minutes twice a day for 10 days. During this time use standing wraps to keep from stocking up which I'll use Fast Wraps. Not sure if that helps you or not. :)

this sounds alot like my recomendations for rehab.  we starting weekthree of stall rest and she is a monster.
can i ask what you are using to ice with?  also has anyone used EPF5 with any luck.  also looked at the suggested runners relief and might try that also.

Ice Vibe makes excellent quality ice boots which you can use when you travel too. They are pricy. Professional's Choice also has some excellent quality ice boots. We use both all the time for various injuries.

I will be using a Professional Choice Ice Boot.  He handles it well. He is going stir crazy and driving me crazy at the same time.  I didn't realize how long of a healing process it is.  It's nice to see him not limping anymore - but its going to be a LONG 6 more weeks.  He also said to do a round of Adequan - I regular use Poly and he does request it in the sheath. He said Adequan has proven to work very well on cartilage.  A round now and than 1 more in the spring. He also put him on corrective shoeing 4 degree wedge to be lowered by a degree every shoeing to help the tendon heal better.

i have added dac's calm b to her daily feed and it seems to take the edge off thru the day but by each feeding time she is full of it again.  haha.  Still seeing quite a bit of swelling.  hoping that is gone by the end of the week.

Oh I don't feel alone than! I have him on the Zyclene helps a bit. He has a bit of swelling too. He goes on the 25th to get a re-check and a shot of Poly. Looks like I am 1 week behind you.

I just brought my horse in for his 4 week checkup. He is doing great, no swelling, sutures were removed. He did have a round of Tildren. Picked up 7 doses of Adequan, they said it helps promote healing of the cartilage and ligiments. So.....$1700 later he is home. Tufts said to ice for 10 days, twice a day for 25 minutes after suture removal. After looking at the leg, they said no icing, so one less thing he can destroy.  This week he is now up to 15 minutes hand walking once a day. How is yours?

not in that good of shape yet.  we are still icing and still have some swelling.  no tendon or ligament damage but not get the swelling out fast at all.
however i am stud shopping.  figured next spring was as good a time as any to see if we can get a foal out of her.

How does everyone wrap with Runner's Relief? I have seen different people say saran wrap first and some say cotton first?? Then how many weeks did everyone do it?

Thanks!! Hope I am not hijacking the post too much :)

I've seen it done both ways. Their website says cotton quilt, saran, standing wrap. Leave on for 12 hours, take off, wash, let breathe for 12 hours, then repeat 6 days per week, 1 day off for 30 days or until next ultrasound, etc...
