Is there a #1 siring APHA barrel stallion out there?
One that has consistently brought good money when selling prospects and sired several winners?
I'm looking to breed one of my solid paint mares next year and amd having trouble finding what i'd like.

I'm not looking for everyone's favorite APHA stud I'm looking for that Resale basically. ( I know the APHA market is... limited in that sense)

What about Cherokee Indian or Indians Image? Don't know about being number one though. As Good As Nick Gets is double registered AQHA/APHA.

Look at the paint section in Fall and Winter for the past year or so
in the Heritage Place Sale and you will see paints are selling cheap.

APHA staff has destroyed the value of owning a paint horse the same
way they did the Appy horse association .... same guys now running
APHA.

With a breeding stock mare .. to get guaranteed color will be with
a homozygous paint stallion here is one ... two top paint lines

APHA never ever had no interest in barrel racing and still don't with

Best advice I can give you is simple ... sell your paint horses and if you
still want a paint .. go to HP and buy you something for under $2000 ..

Around here you cannot give a paint horse away. If they are solid color registry, you just about have to pay someone to take them. I think it is an APHA problem as BHUSA said.

I will say that there are some solid paints around here that can win big time but looking at them you would not know they are paints They probably raised those and you are talking about sales.

I'm sure there is a #1 but I don't think there is one that stands out that much above all others.

Cherokee Indian sired some great horses.  He was sold to Brazil in 2001 and passed away a few years later. There are a few of his sons out there. I have a gelding by A Cherokee Chance that is doing well.

Name wise...RaMax Farm has names people know or the paint sons of Dash Ta Fame.

If you are looking for color; look for a homozygous stallion.

How is your mare bred? We used to own Strait Firewater (APHA son of Fire Water Flit) and we only ever had one paint broodmare. The rest were QH's and the foals that brought the most money had better be proven or out of proven mares (themselves or as producers). The same holds true with QH, but even more true if you want any money for a paint foal. With that said there are very few of Strait's babies for sale. There definitely have been people looking for them. Most foals are kept by the breeders. Obviously he's not homozygous as he's by FWF, so there is the chance of throwing a solid foal. However, most people that buy his foals are looking for them because of their amazing disposition. I love his foals and could care less if they were solid or colored. To me I am buying/riding/raising the performance and conformation in the horse and not the color of it.

I am not sure if that helps you, but I guess regardless of what stud you consider, if your mare is not proven I wouldn't consider breeding for resale purposes.

I've run into the paint prejudice recently.  I have a mare that's basically a quarter horse with breeding stock paint papers.  Well bred, big and pretty, was riding AWESOME, but she crippled herself in a stall accident last year.   I have talked to a few people who were interested in her as a broodmare because they're fans of her daddy...until they found out she's APHA, then >poof<

My paint mare is booked to Strait Firewater. She has a yearling by Osage Spirit. He did well on the track and was started on barrels when I bred to him but it seems he's since fallen off the face of the earth. I also like CRM Livewire and he would be my next pick for my mare after my Strait baby.

I'm starting to think there really isn't one.  I did a ton of research last year when I chose to breed my mare while she recoups from an injury and was dissapointed by the real lack of interest in APHA studs available.  I don't know if it is the lack of race records, speed indexes, current competing progency or a combo of those, but there just isn't much to pick from.  To make it all worse, APHA is a registry that relies heavily off the looks of the animal, IMO, so full registry papers, color and confo TALK the loudest.  It's almost like a stab in the eye to look at some of the stallions availble who have the papers, etc... but are so **** aweful to look at.  To top it all off, that stab in the eye is often accompanied by a slap to the face as well when trying to talk to people about it since the first thing they will say is that "color shouldn't matter".  It's like everything that follows that statement will negate any valid info that can be attained in the discussion.  Earth to moron, color is absolutely a part of the equation when breeding APHA.

With all that said, CRM LIVEWIRE would have been my pick to breed my mare to.  He's who I feel like would be the populuar, resell stallion of the moment.  However, after feeling like I was compromising what I wanted pedigree wise, I decided to gamble and b
reed my Tt/W20 APHA mare to COWBOYS CARTEL.

March 2018 just can't get here fast enough now.

My suggestion also. His babies sell well from what I've seen but I still find them underpriced compared to same bloodline in AQHA.

I love him and he would be my NUMBER ONE choice... BUT this is a granddaughter to Fire Water Flit that i'm looking to breed and a SOlid APHA horse at that. So now I'm sitting here thinking I should look for something homozygous which bring to mind MR JUDY TWO. THough he's not very well known.

I'm the oddball, I only buy APHA due to incentives and the registry.

My line both solid paint. Athletic, smart, very well put together. I try to Judge the individual as well as the pedigree, color means nothing to me, but if you are looking for resale value then you have to stay away for paints.
