Location: Bandera, TX | Anyone using electric fencing in a strip grazing system? If so, what type of wire are you using and solar fence charger?
I'm wanting to run my mares with my cows. Going to try to do the intense short cycle (MiG) grazing next spring. |

Location: Loco,Ok | We used the rope.wire. white color. It's easier to handle and they can see it. Regular Tpost with insulators.. worked for us. |

| We use sucker rod posts with insulators and smooth wire. Our cows are turned out year round on this type of fencing. We have to frequently move fence, especially in the winter when they're grazing cornstalks. Our horses are turned out in the grass pasture with the cattle, and they respect the fence. We always make sure to show it to them so they know to look for it. Just tap the wire with a lead rope so it rattles. We have several different types of chargers depending on where they're turned out. If we can plug them into an outlet we do that so we don't have to worry about batteries. If not, we use batteries and a solar charger to help keep them charged. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | We've used both and the sucker rod with smooth wire has been the best and easiest to move. We made sure to tie orange ribbon around the posts and every few feet of the wire so it's highly visible. If the fence isn't very visible the cows will accidentally trample it.

Solar Charger: Gallagher B180 1.8 Joule 90Acre Charger (They have any acre you need) ETA we have always used solar powered chargers. This is our new charger we just bought. The old one lived a long life. So far so good.

Location: Lone Star State | For strip grazing, I'm assuming you are looking for something that is easily moved around...nothing permanent. When that section of pasture is eaten down, you move the fence. The best system we use is the rope or tape on an electric fence spool with a reel. These make it so easy to hang and move. We use the plastic step-in fence posts on straightaways and t-posts at corners. For solar power chargers, Gallagher S20 is my favorite. I rotate and strip graze our pastures and work on a cattle ranch that does this all summer long. Now if you want the permanent fence, I would do the slick wire and tposts. |

Location: Bandera, TX | Thanks y'all! We're headed to a short course on strip grazing and hoping to learn a bit more. We had no idea what solar charger was worth it's weight. We've always used the big wide tape but thought it's been a pain when just setting up a rodeo pen so glad to know many of you have used the wire with both horses and cattle. |
