My daughter - aged 19 months - is starting to ride. We are still holding on to her while she rides one of the ponies, I would like to get her a helmet now so 1) she's safe just in case; and 2) she's used to it when she's ready for us to let go. I need recommendations on good helmets, especially those for small children. TIA!

We got the Troxel xxs from Mary's Tack and Feed as Horseloverz and Horse.com were sold out. It was the smallest we could find but was still too big for our son at the time so we did have to go with an infant's bike helmet for the interim.

My kids wear hockey helmets. They cover the temples and back of the head. Fit like a glove! My kids like them and will wear them even after they get off their horse because they aren't bulky and sitting on the top of their heads. I buy mine off Amazon. Bauer youth helmet.

Troxel makes one in an xs. Just check the measurements and make sure it is the version with full coverage not the sleaker style. I also do not like a hard brim on the front but thats more personal preference.
I bought one for my daughter (currently 15 months old) and for the nieces to use when they come out for "pony rides". It is still a little too big for my daughter (although she is small on the growth curve). It came with two different sized pads inside and I just used it on my 6-year-old niece and the thinner pads fit her perfectly.
