Wondering what your preference is as far as hauling goes. Typically there are stalls available, which is ideal. But we've run into a few incidences where I've had to end up tying to the trailer all night, and while the horses do alright, I would rather have an alternative.

I have Hi Ties, which I initially loved. But have found that I am kept up all night with the horses movement and the noise of the ties. Plus, my mare set back and stretched the spring, so now it moves even more.

We are hauling three. So I'm thinking the electric corrals might be the way to go. With the drop downs on the trailer, I'm not sure I can even put panels on it, let alone three stalls worth. Positives and negatives from those who use electric?

I have both.  Used the electric for ALOT of years and finally broke down and bought two sets of portable panels this year.  Hands down prefer my portable panels over the electric fence.  However yes they do take up more room.  I have hay rack and haul them up there most the time becuase they are so light.  Two pens I can make a pen big enough using the side of my trailer for three horses.  I sleep better at night not wondering and worrying if soemthing spooks them they are going to run through it.  Not that my horses spook of anything, but crazy things happen and I have had them go through it.  I found my mare in the middle of the night 2 miles from where we were....scariest night ever!

I do not trust electric. I've seen it not work and horses push it down, or take a shock and lose their brain, bounce off the other side and get shocked again... I also see/know a lot of folks who get along just fine with it.

We've been tying with plans to either build or have panels built this winter. I borrowed a set of panels a few weeks ago when stalls sold out at a facility and loved them. My peace of mind was so great I slept through a storm! Woke up to a safe just damp pony.

I would personally love to have panels, but I'm also not sure how I would haul them. The trailer has drop downs on both sides. We are having a hay rack installed soon, but I was planning on putting hay and the generator up there...

I have a water caddy in my hayrack. I can still fit my panels, some hay (I believe I had 4 bales up there last time) and a generator. Just something to think about.

I love my electric fence. I would be lost without it. Im always hauling 2 horses at any given time and its so much more easy to set up and take with me. Plus i can make the lot as big or small as needed, it takes up literally zero room!  my horses respect fences extremely well so i dont worry about them going out. I will wake up in the middle of the night to peep on them from bed but they are always laying down sleeping lol It was so much cheaper as well! cost we around $100 to get everything and now i just go and buy a roll of the polywire as needed. Definitly the way to go !

Mine were made by the brother in law of some who barrel races here in Michigan.  I could PM you the information if you'd like,

The sport I now compete in (Distance Competitive trail NATRC) Does NOT allow electric fence corrals for horses in camp. at all. It is a safety issue. I for sure would never put more than 1 horse per pen if you do use electric.

The risks are that one horse could bump another one into the fence, or disrespect the fence, or... another person's horse could get loose from whatever containment they used and come running through camp and through your electric pen. It happens...it happened with pretty horrific results earlier this year at and endurance ride in south Texas. Multiple horses in an electric pen somehow got spooked or hit the fence and panicked. It resulted in injuries and even death for a few of the horses in camp.

I know folks have used it many times with no issues...heck I had one I used with my barrel horse years ago...but it's a risk.

This company has a good option for panels:

I would have to do three separate pens. I don't(and won't) stall mine together, even at home. Someone always ends up getting kicked. That's why I was leaning towards electric so I wouldn't have to haul around three pens worth of panels.

The thing about fence tape, no matter how good your horses are and respectful of the fence they are, that's not going to keep someone else's horse who gets loose from running through the fence and tearing it down (speaking from personal experience). The last thing you want to do is get up in the middle of the night and find your horse gone, running in a pack of other horses across the grounds....

That's very true. Luckily, we always camp away from people... and rarely do people even camp where we go. We just like to camp so we have throw back a couple cold ones and have a change of scenery. But in the instances that people do camp, I need security for my own.

Has anyone heard of these...

A gal at the last race was highly recommending them. But they don't seem very sturdy either... lightweight though.
