I have never had to travel past the east side of Dallas and want to avoid (as much as possible) the heavy traffic I hear so much about in Dallas and Fort Worth. Suggestions on best route? Should I skirt around Dallas/FW? Is I-20 bad if morning hours?

I20 isn't that bad past Dallas. Just stay on 20 and you'll be fine. It's the fastest route through. After about 9 am the roads free up for a few hours until lunch time around 12. we try and schedule all our doctor appointments for 9 so we can have a straight shot back around 10 or 11.

I 20 splits at Terrell. The right fork is Hwy 80 I believe. The left is 20. It goes way south of Dallas. I would try to avoid that area from about 7:30am till about 9 ish. Avoid in the afternoon from about 5:00 till 6.
