Hey I'm a district director for the nbha and it's time to start thinking about year end awards. What has been some of your favorite year end awards?

Love trophy jackets, but I know those are a task because of size issues.
I really love 5 Star pads, and would love to see them given as prizes. You can order custom from their site, so I bet they could make trophy pads with your organization on them.

I second 5 Star Pads - look up our own Deanna here on BHW, she’s amazing to work with!

Good quality, attractive trophy headstalls and breastcollars. We have some from Infinity (along with several saddles) that are more plain and Rockin A Custom Tack does great affordable trophy work.

Back on Track or PHT always seems to be well received.

Nice quality buckles.

Saddles are expensive, but I really prefer doing certificates so people can get exactly what they want. One organization around here even does a certificate for a trophy saddle of 1 brand or $xxx towards any trophy saddle brand (or at least they did a few years ago) so you could get the specific brand you want if you were willing to make up the difference in price.

Thank you for all the ideas. I like the idea of certificates instead of saddle.
I really didn't want to give a saddle because the ones we would give would have to be cheaper ones and I would rather give something else that is better quality like bot or pht stuff for first. But a certificate towards a saddle they would like would also work. I think you guys have talked me into the 5 star pads also.

Just my two cents, look at your current members and sponsors to see what businesses they have and buy awards through them. They will likely give you a good deal and I like associations that try to support their members as they support you. There are always plenty of local tack makers, tack shops, wood workers, etc. to choose from.

I have seen some really cool picture frames, small furniture items like end tables or buckle displays, gift certificate to the photographers that come to the races, jackets with embroidery (sp?), those small garden wheel barrows that will fit in the back tack, custom spurs, Yeti style coolers,

I'm a director for the local asscociation that i run in and we really do try to get different awards every year bc we normally have just about the same regular members that join every year and we normally know where theyre going to place based on their horses. So, we ask what members would like to have or get. I personally like things that ill get use out of like, coolers, rain sheets, saddle covers, directors chairs and so on. We did saddle pads a couple years ago and they were a hit so we'll probably be doing them again this year. You can literally put an award on anything these days so its so nice to have so many options!

For some reason the OP has two threads of the same topic and your list is on the other one so not deleted just on the other thread.

I have always wished they would just give the money instead of awards. I already have all the tack I needed or I wouldn’t have won anything. I like a specific saddle so one year my director gave me the money to just put new fender on my current saddle. I really dislike anything that has a year on it.. I have halters and etc for 1994 that I have never used. I have talked with a lot of people and all feel the same way.. this would be more your open or senior riders.. i think your pee wees and youth may value the awards more. Just my opinion!

I agree. I would much rather be given money than some award that I will never use.

I like the awards for end of year plus day money at each event.... We were talking about getting our prizes as usual, but letting the 1st place finisher pick which prize they wanted, and the let the 2nd place finisher pick and so on.....

The UBRA has a cool system in which each award is assigned X amount of dollars to be spent in the UBRA store. They can pick anything they want from the various award sponsors vendors. There is  huge variety from Back On Track, jackets, Dale Chavez items, buckles, saddles, tack from a bunch of different makers, purses, Inconclast, Hidez, etc. I think that's really cool because everyone can get something different and custom to their tastes while keeping awards in budget. They can also get more expensive items and just pay the difference.

I liked this system too. It's a lot less work on the producer/association end.
I was reserve 1D champion in the combined region last year and got a Hidez mask, Hidez ice socks, my 2017 membership, and a long sleeved shirt for my awards.

Currently  I'm ordering go round prizes/awards for the URA Finals Rodeo and honestly one of the smaller prizes that everyone seems to like is a throw blanket embroidered with the year & the association logo. I order 50 of them every year and change colors each year. This year my embroidery gal found bigger plush ones on sale so we're going to have about $10 invested in each blanket by the time it's embroidered. I have typically spent closer to $20 and probably not gotten as nice of blankets.

She's also done pillows for us, which actually my roughies loved last year, and we have done Yeti style cups, ice chests, spur straps, halters, headstalls, reins, bell boots and all sorts of other usable items. Lawn chairs were well-received, and so were wooden TV trays, shelves, picture frames and barstools.
