I honestly can't speak about the trees. I have been riding in a Lazy L for 10 years and love that saddle. I took my new horse to Larry Coats himself to get her fitted for a new Lazy L. The flex tree worked perfectly on her. Larry was great to work with. Now I just have to wait till May for the new saddle to arrive. If you can't go there in person I would call them directly.

Coats Saddlery (325)-651-5080 They are super friendly and will go the extra mile to be sure you get something that fits.
The original trees they used on the custom saddles (not Lazy L) tend to fit horses with a quarter horse type build, not necessarily high withered or racy built horses.
The Batie tree saddle I had seemed to be a little more narrow at the front of the bars and the bars flared out wider at the back to fit a horse with a broad back, broad hip but not a broad front end. As far as the way it rides, it feels like the older tree. Rides great.
I love their saddles. They are high quality. The stirrups hang right.
