| My husband and I would love to go to a warmer climate for a month this winter and bring two horses with us. Easy access to trail riding is a top priority and would love to go where there are small little jackpot type shows if possible. I retired my finished horse this year so I'd be taking my now 2 year old and not sure which other horse. I'm not needing to go to big shows, just small stuff and trail riding for exposure for my youngster.
We don't know if we will rent a place for a month and board out the horses or ??? Just trying to put feelers out there as to where our best spot would be. We're very flexible at this point and would love any suggestions.
Thanks |

| In the Houston area you have 7IL ranch west of Houston-2000 acres, obstacles, north of Houston in Navasota there is 5D Ranch-trails and obstacles, both have FB pages. There is also Sam Houston St Park. We have a plethora of jackpots throughout the week and on weekends, you will never not have a jackpot to go to, lol. Our winters are so mild we run all year.

Location: Florida | Norhing affordable in south Florida right now, we are trying to deal with flooding and hurricane aftermath. The beaches are torn up, the barns are flooded, and the rent is going up, especially with trying to absorb half of PR. |

Ewww that doesn't sound fun - AT ALL! We're thinking about going in either January or March depending on when we can get away from work up here. Any chance you will have ALL the mosquitos killed by then?!? |

| Thank you for the ideas so far. Wondering about way south in Texas near McAllen. Is there anything down there? At this point I'm more interested in finding trails to ride on because I'll be taking my now 2 year old. If I find small jackpots to go to that'd be great to expose her to but at this point I won't have anything to run. |

Its dangerous, hot, and the closest barrel race is 5 hours away!! Dont go further south than San Antonio if you want to run barrels! I moved just west of Austin and theres a ton around me and down to San Antonio plus we dont have the humidity McAllen does. Its not horse friendly or trail friendly at all.

The mosquitos never die lol! They just get to be less in numbers over the winter...sadly.
All seriousness there are great trails in central Florida (don't go to south Florida...trust me, there's not much here for trail riding and what there is I would not call great as it's so flat down here..stay North of I-4 and you'll get some hills and pretty trees). If you are talking January or March it should be cleared up and dried up by then.
If I were you I'd look into South Carolina as well. |

Location: Central Texas | You might consider far west TX. Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Lajitas all have endless riding opportunities and usually pretty great weather in the winter. Spring, however, is windy and dusty. The nearest barrel races are about 4 or 5 hours away. |

Michigan. We want to escape the snow storms and 10 degree weather for a month or so. |

We have a guy that comes down from Michigan every November-April at the barn I board at in South Georgia. Have you checked South Georgia? Trail riding is big here and we have mild weather and jackpots. The guy that visits us has a LQ trailer, so he just sets up shop and works off his board and stay! |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Oh lordy stay away from the Valley, nasty place and not horse friendly at all.. I'm from the Edinburg/McAllen area and moved up here to Seguin to get away from the Border.. Google Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Texas or Horse friendly Parks in Texas and all kinds of neat places will come up.. We have alot of neat places to ride up in the hill country. Some of it can be kind of rough riding, so you and your horses need to be in shape and freashy shoed.

I honestly didn't think about south Georgia. We had FL, TX and AZ in mind but AZ is so darn far if we can only get away for 3-4 weeks. I'll will add this to the search area, thanks! |
