| Do you think there is such thing as too much fluff on the underside of a saddle? I have a saddle that fits my mare but it is like the skin on the bottom if it has too much fluff and it doesn't sit down on her back properly. It looks like it just floats on top of her back rather than sitting down all the way. (It is a Martin FX3. My other FX3 does not do this but the gullet does not fit her)
Has anyone else had this problem? |

| Yep, my brand new saddle did this. Actually had to trim it down with a scissors. It would sit flat when I'd sit in it but would pop up pretty bad just sitting there. |

I'm assuming by "fluff "you mean fleece or real wool ?
There is no such thing as too "much" or too thick.
When a saddle is made a synthetic fleece lining is put on the underside and it has been shaved down to an exact thickness. Same with real wool. All saddle makers have only a few places to but their lining from. All of them are about the same thickness give or take a little unless you buy an import saddle. Import saddles will have paper thin lining to keep cost down.
You can order a Martin with a neoprene lining but you won't like it and it won't fit like the fleece or wool lined saddle.
The real wool and fleece are there for shock absorbtion. Martin is a manufactured saddle meaning all the pieces are exactly the same. Cut from dyes to be exactly the same as the next. The lining is no different. The only difference is the saddles are put together by hand at a saddle shop. This would not be a factor in the thickness of the lining.
Now, with that being said you said the saddle doesn't sit on her back properly? Do you have photos?
Your other FX3 may not do this because it is used and the lining is worn down.

WHY!? 
It's brand new. The lining wasn't worn down. So yes, it will "pop up" when just sitting there. It doesn't mean the fit of the saddle is poor.
Lining has to get worn down before it lays flat. It doesn't affect the fit of the saddle. If the saddle fits well the wool lining doesn't affect this fit. Lining gets worn down. It doesn't come from the factory worn down. It's not going to lay flat like a used saddle. Over time yes, it will lay flat.
Think about it like this your mattress is comfortable now and fits you well but if you were to get a brand new matress that wasn't worn down yet it would feel different. Still comfortable but not like the old one. |

It's been 8 months and still pops up due to fluff, sits down flat when I sit in it though.
The fleece had been doubled on my saddle and I was told by the saddle maker I could trim it if it really bothered me, which it did.  |

Yes. That is what I mean. This one just seems to have too much on the underside. Like it doesn't want to sit down on the pad. I put it on my gelding and it looks the same way. When I sit on it, it seems to flatten out and look ok.
