Ok.. Yesterday I had a horse come up lame in a rear leg. It seemed like an abscess at how fast it came on. So I soaked it and poulticed it. Today He was checked by my farrier and he didn't hoof test sensitive so it's probably not an abscess. Today it seems higher up like his stifle. He's lame at a trot, sore at a walk, and resting is foot standing still. Upon inspection today we found a 3 inch wide large raised swelling on the inside of his stifle. It was not there last night which is why I thought an abscess. In the middle of the swelling was a small deer tick so I pulled it off. I've had horses swell from tick bites like this before but never ever lame. There is no heat or other swelling anywhere in his leg. He has no temperature either. Why would a horse get so lame from an initial tick bite on their leg. I've dealt with Lymes and anaplasmosis a few times and it doesn't come on that fast... Anyone have any thoughts? ??

The tick bite might not be related to the soreness. I would have a vet check it out if he doesn't get better soon.

He goes in Friday. Just brainstorming up until I can get in... ETA. I pretty much own a whole wing at the vet or am paying for their early retirement since I've been there once to twice a month every month this year.... It's been a very very bad year.
