Hi all- I have a super nice colt by Leaving Memories and I really just love the bloodline, so I was looking to breed my mare to him. I know he's a 1989 model, so there's a chance that he's not around anymore, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny where he's at? He has kind of fallen off the face of the Earth with no mention if he is deceased or not. AQHA records say he is owned by James E Helzer of Arlington, TX and the breeders of my colt (a 5 year old) say they dealt with the JEH Stallion Station, but I can't find their website either.
Thanks in advance.

I thought he was no longer breeding. Found old 2015 info saying he was breeding. http://www.perfecthorseauctions.com/index.php?a=2&b=3181

Thank you for the extra info! I thought the JEH Station in Oklahoma was closed down? But I think they have another one in Texas.

I think he died in 2016? I could be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that. I tried to get a colt by him, but my mare wouldn't take, darn it.

Hmm. You would think there would be an article on it somewhere. It's not like he was just some backyard stallion.

I think the strong horse in the pedigree is First Down Dash. I think if you find nice son of First Down Dash you should get the same qualities. Remember Dash Ta Fame was a son of First Down Dash. My trainer had a gelding by Leaving Memories. My broodmare was by Leaving Memories. I have two granddaughters out of my broodmare. One is a world champion the other is just as talented. My trainer has a 2017 baby out of her that looks like he will have a lot of potential. There are several very nice stallions by First Down Dash. My trainer bred the old Leaving Memories to Sir Seth (SI113) this year. There are some nice sons out there with a lot of potential.

Might add that Leaving Memories offspring are often very tall, long bodied horses. They have to be trained differently from the little cow horse types. My old mare and Clarence are at least 16-3 and my two granddaughters are still grow but are both around 16-1.

Thank you, but I am really looking for that particular cross. Don't forget that Sweet Blush (dam of Leaving Memories) also produced Blushing Bug. Also, are you saying that he was still breeding as of last year?
Here is my Leaving Memories colt. This was the day he turned 5. He is 16.1 hands tall, but not long bodied.

I live in the area where Leaving Memories stands. I tried breeding to him last year. No luck. I know a few people did have some luck, but more of them had my story. I think when JEH closed, his owner just picked him up. I hadn't heard he died but can ask my vet. I do know he would only breed mares that would haul to him because he was older and had lower quality semen. No frozen/shipped.

At this point, I can pretty much tell you that your best bet is to try to find an own son or daughter if you want another one of that breeding. Since he only stopped breeding a year or so ago, there are still some nice young ones around.

I have a 5 year old by him that we raised. We bred our mare AI, and although the motility at that point wasn't great we were able to get our mare in foal. I haven't heard anything about him in several years, but I would think if he had passed we would have heard about it.
