I was looking at this mare in foal she just caught my eye out of everything else ( I don't need another horse). Called down there she must have been a local the guy had seen her ride she has reining training and cow work I guess. She's a beautiful mare very sweet they said. Only 8. I've never bought out of a kill pen and it is a long ways so we'll see.

Sorry, I do not get on here a friend of mine is a member who saw your original post and asked me to join to help you since she knows I have three horses from Pitkin. And there are two others at my stable from there. I for some reason do not get any kind of notification and well I forgot. I actually have two and one on the way tomorrow, so three. I arranged transport through Gary, all three times. My horses were brought fairly fast (with in one week). Mark hauled the first one, and is hauling this one as well. The second one was brought by Erby. Mark did a really good job the first time, my horse had hay bag and water bucket. With Erby the hay bag was there but he didn't hang water, so I am glad to see Mark is delivering this time. And we looked at the mare you are walking about (the gray) She is beautiful.

Glad the horses are getting out of there.   They are not a kill pen, they do not have a contract to ship to slaughter nor do they routinely sell to real kill pen buyers. The deadline/ship dates are just tactics used to sell.   The “kill pen” line is also used as an excuse as to why they themselves cannot doctor or properly feed the horses but they will doctor and offer extra care if others donate the funds to pay for it-i do not understand how that makes sense.  Bottom line is they take in over one hundred horses a week, do not properly feed them, house them, seowrate the sick because “ it is a business” and will effect their  profits.

Actually, They provide one set of horses a week for Jason Sexton who took over Stanleys contract to Mr.Cantus plant. Join DOuble S so you are educated on the facts before you spread misinformation. I prefer to support Pitkin because they have the option to not ship and some weeks they dont have enough. And, yes it's a kill pen not a rescue. I watch their unloading videos and a lot of the horses come in there in bad shape. Its a shame that people don't have to take care of their animals and can just dump them off. I believe they said it best when they said the pens were designed for horses to come in and ship out within days. NOT weeks, and rehoming them often means they are there too long. So, its a no win for the horses. I actually have been there, and the pens have shelter and hay bales in every pen. One mare i saved didnt eat for two weeks HERE, from stress. So, they couldn't have had any better luck it took 7 days on ulcer guard for her to start to eat. If you visit there youd see the pens and the way its set up. Its like a cattle feed yard. But some horses stress and dont, a lot of them come in sick or injured. Its not meant to be a rehab or a rescue. And I have 3 now, there are 2others at my barn. ANd we are always looking for more. The one we bought at Bastrop died before we picked it up, so we buy from Pitkin at least we are guaranteed a horse there. If it dies they replace it.

Sonnypistol I hope you get a good horse, and I am signing off. I stay away from message boards and facebook for the exact reason. I do not care to argue my opinion, I've made it based on my own facts and knowledge and don't care to hear yours especially since you have no facts. Have a good day. And again hope you find a horse you like, we love ours.

My SIL works closely with a rescue who gets horse from there.  I am a member of that FB page. Is this a recent contract they took over, they do not have a contract to ship but can provide horses to a real kill pen.   Horses do come in sick and underweight, others come in healthy.  I don’t accept that it is a given that they “have” to become emaciated, build more pens, take in less horses.  The girlfriend has stated numerous times that they are millionaires, spend some money on a proper facility to house that many horses.

They take in way more horses than they are willing to properly care for.   If you don’t have the proper facilities, don’t take on so many.   They buy for the purpose of resale which is fine, no different than anyone else selling horses but they refuse to take care of then and dome people  seem to except this as ok.   They do not have a contract to ship to slaughter but use they are a kill pen as an excuse to not take care of horses that are bought for the purpose of flipping.  I can’t get the image to load, it is a screen shot of their FB page saying “ we are a kill pen, horses do not get proper care” when 95% of what they buy is for resale to the public.

1. Im pretty sure "youllneverguess" is Tara Sanders.
2. Thompson Horse lot does not even have a scale to weigh horses in and is not a real kill pen its a joke and they don't even attempt to give half ass decent care or even feed for weight at all.
3. Thompsons buy at sales to sell to the public, they have no intent of shipping what they overpaid for (ive seen them in action at sales).
4. Thompsons is the only lot you constantly see dead horses pictured from.
5. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY
Im not saying all KP are bad by any means at all, but there are some serious complaints from several who have bought out of Thompsons.
