| Ugh my 3 year old caught a virus. Was fine last night at 8pm and was not interested in his feed this morning. Very unlike him. Gut sounds were good. Just under the weather. Checked temp and it was 104.5!! So vet had me start smz and banamine. Smz for 10 days and banamine every 12 hours as needed. Lol so much for the NBHA
State finals this weekend. Vet said they can be off for 10 days to 3 weeks. lol ugh. |

| No offense meant to your vet .... but why give SMZ's for a viral infection? I get the banamine for anti-inflammatory and pain relief but antibiotics (SMZ's) don't do anything for a viral infection. |

| Why would he put it on smzs it’s a virus not a bacterial infection.. this is the very reason we have antibiotic resistance |

The type of virus my horse has causes secondary lung infections quite regularly. The cells in the throat die off, gravity pulls them to the lungs and can cause phemonia. Thats why and how it was explained to me.. |

Treatment of secondary infections make sense - pneumonia sucks and I hope it all gets figured out for you. |

| Mine is sick, too. Same deal...it is going around our area combined with the weird weather. (Hot, dry, and windy days- cold, dry, and windy nights.)
No Cowboy Challenge for us tomorrow.
Hope yours gets better without any adverse events or secondary crud.

He is doing much better. Stayed home from work today to keep an eye on him. He is drinking really good now and appetite is starting to pick up. He is craving dry grass/weeds. Lol have no idea why but my vet said at this point , let him eat whatever he wants. It’s been 24 hours now with no banamine and fever has stayed away. |
