| So I have decided to keep 1 horse to ride until my weanling is of age. That one horse is coming 3. He is already too wide for the 2 saddles I have but I know he is not done changing shape. I know that neither of these saddles will fit him in the end. Do I get on the hunt now, or wait? My issue right at this moment is that both saddles currently apply too much pressure to his wither/shoudler area and he is naturally a little upward moving already, and I don't want to cause him to develop any bad habits (bucking) from pain from an ill-fitting saddle.
If I should go ahead and look for a wider- fit saddle, what should I look for? I know its fairytale but I would like to break even and not be out a bunch of money over this deal. I have a reinsman and a sharon camarillo. It would be an amazing thought if I could trade. |

| I just went through this with my 3 year old!!! He was little, narrow, and scrony and then all of a sudden he bloomed.... went from 14.2-15.3 and from about 900 pounds to 1250 in a matter of 5 months. I went through 3 saddles in that time knowing full well he would still grow and change. I am a member of several FB tack swap pages and thankfully I was able to just keep trading saddles with other people. This colt is going to be thick and wide. A Charmayne James wide tree I knew would eventually fit him so I bought a new one and used a thicker pad at first, but now it fits perfect with a normal 3/4" pad. Hope that helps! |

I am a member of several FB tack swap pages and thankfully I was able to just keep trading saddles with other people. This colt is going to be thick and wide. A Charmayne James wide tree I knew would eventually fit him so I bought a new one and used a thicker pad at first, but now it fits perfect with a normal 3/4" pad. Hope that helps!
I had wondered about buying a wider saddle that might be a little too wide now, and just getting a thicker pad for the time being. I'll try to post a picture of him. He's a cow lol.

Yea mine is all cow to! The charmayne james wide tree is for bigger shoulders and flatter backs. |

Location: North Dakota | I love shiloh saddles and the price tag! I would try a 7" gullet Shiloh Contender saddle. You will love it! there is a few used ones for sale on the fb used shiloh saddles group. if you don't like it you will get your money back on selling it! |

Location: California | I have an Andalusian that I had a heck of a time trying to find a saddle for. He's only 5 but is a late bloomer and just starting to fill out. I still wanted a western saddle for him, and one that could work for my other horses. I went treeless- I LOVE riding bareback so the saddle didn't seem like a huge change for me. I know some people have to really transition to treeless. I got an original Bob Marshall used. |
