Does a bit like this or this have any above average risk of pinching the horse's tongue? My horse tends to like bits that he can play with so I'd like to give one of these a try, but when I look at them, it looks like all those moving parts might be more likely to accidentally pinch his tongue than, say, just a regular roller.

I wouldn't think so. I have used a shanked bit with the mouthpiece shown on the 1st pic and most horses really liked it.
