Location: North Dakota | My horse is being body shamed by tack companies! Boots, cinches, reins, headstalls, breast collars...all come up short on him! And I'm tired of it! He's just too big to fit in standard western tack. He's not HUGE though, definitely not big enough for draft tack. He's 15.3 hands and stocky. Is there some place where I can find large horse tack that is affordable and nice looking. I like simple nice leather tack with maybe some decorative buckles or spots. I don't want to have to custom order stuff if I can help it. |

| I gave in and ordered a custom breast collar. You can find longer tugs and use them where they're supposed to go, as well as replace the part that goes between their legs with one. Be careful the leathers don't pinch though.
And THEN I went for a saddle fitting. With a different saddle, standard size will now fit. The saddle sits more up over his shoulders which shortens the length needed for breast collar.
My guy is the same - 16 hands and well built. |

Location: North Dakota | My saddle chips very well, so that's not as issue. The biggest thing is finding a headstall. I wouldn't even begin to know where to custom order tack from. |

| I buy expensive tack and take care of it. It lasts a long time. The paint in my avatar is 16-1 and thick. He wears a large horse halter but the regular Weaver headstalls fit fine. I use a 34 Toklat fleece cinch. Have never had a problem with Weaver tack not fitting. |

I guess IDK what constitutes expensive. By far the most durable, best fitting headstall I own was $20. The Martin I just spent $50 on sucks. I am on a limited budget. But even if I had all the money in the world, I can't find a place that sells larger headstalls and breast collars! |

I usually buy mine on sale. I think the last I bought was a Stacy Westfall headstall and breast collar. I just found a Stacy Westfall headstall on Amazon prim for $56 and a breastcollar at stateline tack for $144. Think the headstall was on sale. Both are Weaver. They last very well. Plenty large.

Ok. I've had trouble with weaver not fitting in the past, but it wasn't westfall line. |

Location: Southern Indiana | I have the same issue but it's mostly just breastcollars that are always too small. I feel like headstalls run large in general.
I would try Teskeys. They make a lot of their own tack and it's pretty nice and affordable. You may even call them and have them measure the breastcollar collars to find one that would be the right size. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | Hunn leather can make you a custom.Most of their leather goods fit larger horses. I have the same problem,so I Use rope or para cord on most of my tack. Weaver leather is another and Billy Cook. Find a saddle maker or someone who does leather goods in your area. |

My teskeys breast collar didn't even reach the d rings on my saddle. Others have mentioned Weaver leather, which has always been too small as well. We don't really have any tack stores in my area, nor have I been able to find anyone who does leather work. I really just need something ASAP rather than waiting on custom items. |

Location: North Dakota | i think some of runnings or TSC headstalls would fit-use a tape measure and take it with (with measurements). I've had good luck with finding large headstalls-my guy is 16 hands and huge whereas finding smaller stuff for my other horse is miserable-I've custom ordered small stuff. |

Location: Way up North | Really all you need to convert your current tack is a longer poll piece if it's just a one ear and longer tugs for your breastcollar. If you can get a measurement of what you need and post on Facebook there are tons and tons of makers that can help you.

He's the one in my profile pic. It's weird cause he doesn't look that big. And he's only 15.3 hands, but I've NEVER had a headstall or breast collar I didn't have to poke extra holes in, I have to order 9' reins because I can barely reach standard reins (and I'm 5'11, I have long arms), and boots are very hit or miss. I've had many pairs of Large boots that don't even close on him. I've tried many pairs of side reins, neck stretchers, a pessoa system, etc. None of them were even close to big enough adjusted out to their complete maximum. Weirdly enough he's got a narrow little mouth that fits a standard 5" bit perfectly. Attached is a pic of him in the one headstall that's fit him.

These are cheap and last a long time, I’ve got probably 4 or 5 of these on random bits, they fit even our big 16 hand rope horses just fine with multiple holes left to go. These horses don’t exactly have small heads either, they are BIG horses :) |
