QUESTION: Do you feel that barrel racing is harder on your low back, hips or legs than roping??
I personally think that barrel racing is harder on my low back, hips, & I need to use my legs more than roping. I need some input to make sure it's not just in my head...

As I age, I struggle with the same things. It depends on the horse and it seems really weird, but I'll agree that barrel racing makes my low back more sore than roping (team roping- either end). Strangely, the horse that feels easier to ride makes my low back more sore than the one that's more work to ride. No idea why.

Yes, BUT I've found that a good saddle and the twisted/slanted stirrups have really helped me A LOT! Plus if you think about it, the intensity on our bodies when we rope is quite a bit less than running a full pattern. Only 10-15 seconds of intensity when I'm heeling vs 20 seconds minimum from start to end-If the impact were to be measured, only about half a barrel run goes into a good team roping run. I wish I was a better roper, I'd probably quite barrel racing as I'm proving not very good at that either
