Location: Somewhere around here | I'll be getting a new treeless saddle next week and the best saddle pad I have to ride with it is a 5 Star pad. Now I've heard from a few different people saying that I'll be fine with mine and others saying I NEED to use 5 Stars treeless saddle pad, so I'm a little confused on what I should do. Help??

I love the Saddleright's with a treeless but sure have ridden one with many different saddle pads.

Location: Iowa/Missouri | I've used my regular 5 Star with my treeless saddle for the last 2 years and haven't noticed any problems with this combination. |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | Your pad should depend on two things...how balanced you ride, and what your horse prefers. I always tried to start with a CSI pad under my Bobs. Worked perfect on one...another one HATES CSI pads. I'm a small, very balanced rider, and what ended up working for him was a Classic Equine ESP. Turns out, he likes the feel (as in, I could feel him breathe), and it didn't make him sore. It worked for him, but I wouldn't start there by any means. I've heard great things about 5 star and Saddlerights with treeless, but I never used them. |

| It depends on what your saddle pad measures. Some pads work because they are longer side to side, usually 32 inches. Some don't because the rigging goes down past the saddle.
Quite a few of the treeless saddle pads have a drop rigging area that accomodates for this. The other thing the treeless pads do is they have a spine opening to accommodate for no spine clearance from the saddle.
I've ridden in a JBN treeless for, I think this is my 6th year, and I have a regular 30L x 32W 5star and I've had no problems with soreness or anything, Minus having to cut the wither connector because my horse has huge withers. |

Location: California | I've bad my bob for about a couple months now. It's a round skirt. I've been using a regular 5 star pad and have not had any problems with it yet. My horse works as good as ever.
I think it will really just depend on your horse. |

| The thing I Like about the 5 star treeless pad is it has the whole back cut out so there is no spine pressure. I LOVE saddlerights BUT for a treeless not so much. The thought of the impact protection yes But unlike a treed saddle, where the seam for the two halfs of the pad is sewn together that runs down the spine, it fits into the channel of the tree. So there is no pressue placed and there is relief over the spine. Under a treeless that seam that sticks up is right over the spine. To me that will cause problems especially since you are sitting right over it and drilling a lump right into their back. That is the last thing you want. I would opt for something that sits flat over the spine or has a spine opening like the 5 star pad. |

No. You do not need a 5 Star. Felt pads don't absorb shock and don't wick moisture. I have a treeless saddle and use a Toklat Matrix with additional thinline shims. It works perfect for us. Jen X Equine and CSI are other good options. You want something that will absorb shock and take pressure off the spine. |

That's what I use. Love it. Be warned though--the barrel pad is really small so if you have anything larger than a 14-14.5" saddle it will be way too small. |

I've ridden Sports Saddles for well over a decade and all I have ever used is a 3/4" wool felt pad. NEVER had a sore back. |

That's what I use. Love it. Be warned though--the barrel pad is really small so if you have anything larger than a 14-14.5" saddle it will be way too small.

I'll use mine for a while, see how it goes and if it needs to be changed I'll probably go with a treeless 5 Star pad or I'll check in CSI pads. |
