Location: Covington,La | Thought this would be a fun topic! I am currently in the market for a trailer for myself. 1 horse, 1 Husband and 1 very busy 4 year old boy. I have my “wants” but what do y’all just HAVE to have on the road or with amenities? |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | A decent size bathroom!!! My husband is 6’3” and weighs 275... we have to have something he can move in!!! Closet space is a must! I’ve grown spoiled to my onboard vacuum system but it’s not a deal breaker. I have to have mangers and a haypod- those are non negotiable items for me. We have an 11 month old, so a generator is another top of my list item. Our current trailer is a side load and I’ve grown pretty fond of the ramp and double back tack. I could go on forever! I’m picky!! It only took me a year to find our current trailer because it had everything we wanted! |

We've hauled hardly at all in the last two years, but when we were going a lot, that extra stall was priceless in my opinion!! We trail ride, so all the overflow hit the stud stall. I'd rather have the extra and not need it. . . .
Love our mangers, generator, and ramp. Wish we had a slide out, and like Ash said, bigger bathrooms/showers for bigger guys!!!!! Sean is 6.2 and weighs about 245---the shower is a little close in our current trailer for him!!!! |

| Am I crazy for NOT liking mangers?! My two horse has them and I hate them. They collect hay dust and are hard to clean. I just bought a 3H LQ and my requirement was NO mangers!!!
I have 2 kids, so I opted for a couch rather than a table. I wanted an automatic awning. |

Get the 4h! It’s only two more foot to pull and you’ll never regret having extra room. I have a 4h and would like a 5h. I sold my 6h with a dressing room when baby came along... it’s been hard to transition. Electric awnings are THE BOMB. I’ve had two trailers with them and would love to have one on this trailer. They are SOOO much easier than a manual! |

Location: Northwest | Must haves: generator with push start inside. Short, handy trailer length. Couch. 8’ wide. Awning. Electric Jack.
Things I compromised on: prefer no mangers but ended up with them (which was good because I didn’t end up getting a mid-tack). No cooktop (that’s ok because I’d maybe use it once a year, maybe?)

| My needs included 8 feet wide, managers (it gives you so much extra storage space, that I don’t know what I would do without them.), and big fridge (I think it’s 6 cubic feet), automatic jack, automatic awning, ramp, hay rack, extra closet space in living quarters, sink in the bathroom. I wish I had a generator on top, (it would be so much easier than hauling one) and wish I would have do fans in the horse part. I also think be sure to have at least one extra stall than horses you could take with. It’s nice to have the extra storage space. |

| Curious questions to tack on to this - I'm about to have a little one and am curious if anyone with small kids prefers the couch to the dinette?
Must haves for me is:
8ft wide-this is a non-negotiable. I tried going back to a smaller size and hated it.
I've now had a haypod and a hay rack - If I had either - I would want the pod. And agree that the generator needs to be on top.
We added a water tank on top and that is a new must have. I LOVE LOVE LOVE having my own water wherever we go.
There is also a spicket (sp?) under the nose of my trailer that I use constantly.
Automatic gas to electric converter for the fridge.
Push start generator
**escape door** I've been surprised how many trailers don't have one and I ended up with one not being aware how much I actually used it.... and it turns out I used it all the time.
Front and rear dropdown windows. I had a stock combo and didn't like that I couldn't keep it 100% dry in the trailer but loved the airflow so this was a good compromise for me.

| I have an older '96 sundowner 3 horse. I love it, even tho it's small, because it fits 2 people perfectly. It has the fold down couch, separate toilet and shower, 2 burner stove top, refrigerator, micro, a/c and heater, back tack and awning. I wish I had a better clothes closet, the refrigerator was not under the stove (too low), I had the table instead of the couch, and it was taller for the horses.
That being said, I pull it great with my 2500, I don't have a payment, and my wish list is minor! |

Location: East Texas | If you are hauling 2 or 3 and your friend is hauling 2 or 3, I would get a 16' stock/LQ with a cut gate. When only hauling a few, close the gate and you have an huge space for extra storage.
Lots of personal preference when picking a LQ trailer..... Things I like are gen on top, outside electrical plugs and water spigots, and as much tack storage as possible. I like the our mid tack. One bonus about it is access to it from either side of the trailer.
My wife and daughter are fans of our tankless water heater. |

Location: Southern Indiana | A good layout in the LQ. So many trailers have bad layouts. A large fridge, closets/cabinets, ducted air, furnace, & a decent sized bathroom with a mirror I can actually use. Biggest pet peeve I have in our trailer is the mirror. It's angled wrong and the sink is next to the shower and you can't do you hair and look into the mirror because it's angled towards the wall.

Location: Way up North | For me the electric jack has been my favorite upgrade, after hand cranking for years it is so nice and easy to hook and unhook! I also love the walk through door and my trailer has the extra tall ceilings so I don't feel like I'm crawling into a coffin when I'm in bed.
Mangers were a must have for me when trailer shopping and they are very nice to have but I just had a horse get a leg stuck up in the manger. How or why she got it up there I don't know but it was a disaster that could have been really bad. She's okay but it was a very abrupt end to our season. I have hauled in lots of trailers with mangers with no issues at all but based on that experience I will probably look for a trailer with a mid-tack and no mangers in the future. |

Location: Missouri | I hauled a 4H w/LQ and mangers for 12 years, recently bought a new stock combo w/LQ and a HUGE mid tack with a ramp that I LOVE. So does everyone else. I have at least 5 people per show want to come tour my trailer. Besides the mid tack the best thing about it is, it has a bathroom sink and counter, my other one just had a shower & toilet and you had to use the kitchen sink and there was no place to put stuff when getting ready in the morning like makeup and brushing teeth. My LQ is a little bigger, but not much. The mid tack allows for alot of storage instead of having mangers. It's also all aluminum and much lighter to pull than my steel frame w/aluminum skin I had before. I just adore it! |

Location: Texas | i just bought a new trailer and the hydraulic jack is my favorite thing that I spent extra $ to get. I never had an electric jack, so I can't compare to that, but the hydraulic is fast! |

I love our dinnette set over a couch. It’s nice when it’s nasty out to be able to sit and play cards inside. I can also work remotely for my job so having a table to work on is a great feature. I’ve seen some couch that have a table you can set up, depending on your floor plan this might be something to consider - especially if you have a kid who can be entertained by things like coloring!
I wish I had a full size fridge, I will change that next time for sure.

Stoves are a waste of space...not even sure I will want a cook top in my next one. I've had our current trailer for 3 years and can't recall one time that I used the cook top.

| Interesting to read everyone’s comments. I have had everything from small 8 foot to large 12 foot with midtack Large refrigerator to small refrigerator that we lived out of for 3 weeks straight. Dinette to table to set up. Windows on both sides that drop is a must or atleast two on the butt side that drop. When I had a smaller trailer I wanted storage so did not want a large fridge, where do you put your clean and dirty clothes was it worth giving up that extra room? Dinette depends of age of who is in the trailer, if they are kids as soon as you sit down they want out. One weekend experience answered that for us. Midtack was mostly a catch all and ended up wasted space, lawn chaos and fans but they all fit in mangers. Love my convection oven... I was never a large bathroom person as you spend limited time in it so I wanted that space up front. When I built my first 10 foot I was picky, second trailer was great for a few years but then went back to an 8 foot that I can go into any parking lot. Must have for an 8 foot is sink in bathroom plus up front. I searched a long time for specific options when I bought used. I do have a ramp which is not a must have but sometimes nice. Werm flooring or polylast are must haves. |
