Ok, about a month ago I posted about my mare having problems of it feeling like she was stepping In a hole. Originally I though it was stifle issues but we took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with EPM. It wasn't too severe and she is on a treatment plan now. My question though is how do you manage them during their treatment? I haven't changed feed at all (Renew Gold, Forco and free choice costal), but she's lost some weight and her topline is gone, just not looking as good as she could be. What do you recommend for putting weight back on them? Can I still exercise to keep her in somewhat good shape - I have access to a track, round pen, eurosizer and an arena. Ive never had horse with EPM before and I'm finding myself very stressed Any other advice you have about EPM is welcomed too!
To build the topline back is amino acids. I have a horse with epm. and I tried all the exercises and tummy tucks and so forth. And he always look like he has a hay belly. but what was happening he was losing his topline so therefore making the look of the hay belly. I got the book and read articles from her website on how to feed a horse like a horse. And that has helped more than anything. I have him on her vit./min and vit e and my forefront products and all the forage he wants, and what a difference! I been trying for 5-6 years to build the topline! Its the amino acids that build the muscles. when he was first diagnose he was so bad I didn't think he would pull thru and we did the IV Driclaruzil for 5 days (vet did) and I only treat if I see symptoms. tho I do give him lavamisole 2x year. Good luck it is a very frustrating disease! be careful that you don't blame all your problems on EPM in the future!
