Your alfalfa cubes for? I'm done with feeding processed feeds, I've tried them all and none ever seem to stay consistent. So I decided to start feeding hayrite mini cubes and renew gold along with my coastal. I filled up one of those smaller buckets with the cubes this morning and filled it with warm water covering the cubes completely. Soon as the cubes would soak up I'd put more water because the cubes were still a bit hard... anyway it took about an hour and a half to get them to where I was somewhat comfortable to feed to my EXTREME choke prone horse... I nervously watched him eat and he did just fine ... in fact he seemed irritated with me standing over him lol! But he's choked on so much feed I'm paranoid. I will say I'm impressed with the hayrite cubes, although hard, they were very clean and very green and smelled great. I was thinking maybe I didn't need to be soaking them so long and that I was totally overreacting on having them all be mush... he always choked on small pellets, alfalfa pellets or feed that had a beet pulp consistency to it. My other 2 that never had an issue seemed to really take their time eating then happily not scarfing like they usually do.

I used to feed the omnis cubes and they said you don't have to soak, well I did anyways and it took like 5 mins. no time at all. It does have flaxseed and you don't want to soak very long bc of the flaxseed. But the quality didn't stay the same or I would still be feeding it. I don't know bout hayrite. That's a long time to soak to get soft enough tho.

I do not soak the Omnis cubes and the consistency is better now than what it was several months ago. My horses love their Omnis cubes. I do soak the Standlee Alfalfa/Oat cubes and they only get those in the morning and I only soak for about an hour.

pabarrelracer - 2017-11-08 7:32 PM I mix my morning feed after I feed at night and after night feeding I mix for the am. So it soaks all night or all day.
I think that's what I'm going to do.
This is what I do as well. Nice and soft, no breaking up to do really.
