| A handicap system so you only compete against comparable competition. Level 1 used to be novice.
Divisions Learn about AQHA's divisions of showing: open, amateur and youth. There are three competition divisions within AQHA shows: open, amateur and youth. Read on to learn more about each. Open If you have a current AQHA or AQHYA membership, you are eligible to show your American Quarter Horse in open competition. Open competition is usually for the most experienced exhibitors, trainers and professional horsemen but many amateur and youth members can be tough competitors as well. Open classes can also be divided according to the age of the horse. - 2-year-olds
-
- Junior horses (5 years of age and under)
-
- Senior horses (6 years of age and older)
How It Works Within the open division are levels: Rookie, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. These are based on the horse's achievements. For open division halter and cattle events, classes are leveled by the exhibitor's record. Those levels are: Rookie, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. To learn more about these levels, determine your specific level and find out how the levels group horses and riders with similar skill and experience levels for competition, visit www.aqha.com/leveling. Eligibility If you are a paid professional and you are ready for a higher level of competition, then the AQHA open division is for you! Amateur American Quarter Horse owners who do not join the professional ranks may enjoy a full spectrum of competition in the amateur division. How It Works Within the amateur division are levels: Rookie, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. To learn more about these levels, determine your specific level and find out how the levels group riders with similar skill and experience levels for competition, visit www.aqha.com/leveling. Eligibility You may obtain an amateur membership if you have not shown, judged, trained or assisted in training a horse (whether or not a registered American Quarter Horse ) for remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly, nor received remuneration for instructing another person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse for three calendar years previous to application for amateur membership. Amateurs must exhibit a horse in their ownership or in the ownership of someone directly related to them (see AQHA Rule SHW220 for details ). The relationship of the amateur to the owner of the participating horse must be evidenced by submitting legal documentation (i.e., copies of marriage and/or birth certificates ) to AQHA's Show Department. Every person competing in an Amateur class at any AQHA approved show must hold an amateur membership and be 19 years of age or older on or before January 1 of the current year. |

| To qualify for level 2 rider or horse had to have fewer than 25 AQHA points. Points vary from one event to another. Kissyourmoneygoodbye was also third in level 3 which Pete Oen won. Many ran in both
You do not have to have an amateur card to participants in level 2. Level 1 has their own world show at another time. You do not have to qualify for that show. You have to qualify for each event at AQHA world. My horse won the Dixie Nationals last January to qualify. When I rode this mare in level 1 in poles at Jackson MS. There were people who ran low 21's. It is based on the number of AQHA points you have.

| This was a horse that I bought when she was about a month old. I think you do need to be savvy about bloodlines. My personal choice is the running bloodlines. I will add that my horse would just be another horse without my trainer. Picking a good one is important. Thank all of you again. Yes, I am excited. This has been a 40 year dream.

More or less a handicap system ...... The levels range from Rookie for beginning competitors to Level 1 for the minimally accomplished, Level 2 for the moderately accomplished and Level 3 for the highly accomplished.
Each level goes by AQHA points earned only. I ran in AMATEUR Level 1 Novice in Jackson MS an the SECOND place horse ran a low 21. Don't know what first place won. The Sr Open Pole horses were running low 20's and 21's. Don't really remember about Barrels there but there were some exceptionally nice runs.
AQHA sends you an invitation to the World Show because the horse accumulated a certain number of points for the year.
Level 1 has its own AQHA World Show which is held in Ardmore OK I believe. You do not not have to qualify for this show. |

Thanks for posting that. It is just about what I said. Just way more complicated. Several trainers ran in the Level 2. They apparently had not reached the 25 AQHA point limit.
Edited to add there is a list of people who are NOT eligible for Level 2 in each event. Fallon Taylor ran in Level 3 Sr Barrels because that is where the money is. I don't recall if her name was on the list that could not run in Level 2 or not but don't think it was. She could have run in Level 2 if it was not on the list.

If it’s like the Congress you can have a duplicate made. When whateva won it I spent a small fortune to have a second one made because me and Pete couldn’t decide who got the trophy! |
