How would you write up if you were doing a horse trade but holding transfer back pending vet inspection? I have a horse trade in working in but would like to get a radiograph of the colts knee prior to signing over the ownership of my horse. It has a cut that is healing but I just want to be sure there is no damage beforehand.

I, personally, would not do the trade until the vet check was DONE!

I agree with the first response, I would not commit to anything until you have a written statement from your vet that at the time of exam, the horse was found to be free of any soundness issues. If they want to take the horse "as is" and know that you haven't had an exam done, then that is on them. If the person doesn't want to wait until you are able to see your vet and get that in writing, then I personally wouldn't trade anything with them.

Well I'm the one wanting the rads on the horse I'm getting. The vet they tried getting it done with said they have no one to read the rads and I said well they can send them to mine and that's fine but the clinic said no they couldn't do it.

That makes more sense then. I would just have a bill of sale stating "finality of trade pending radiographic findings" and when you get the colt, take it to your vet ASAP and have it radiographed. If they don't want you to do that, or won't have their vet take rads and allow someone else to interpret them, then I would be scared they are hiding something, even if you've offered to pay for it.

That sounds a little fishy to me too ..... Most vets will work with another vet ..... Personally, MY horse would not leave my place until that colt was vetted clean.....but that's just me....not very trusting in this day and age .

Well, never mind hah we met and both horses were pretty underweight. No way my horse was getting on that trailer. I quickly declined any trade and we left.
