I agree on all!

She’s riding a treeless and I noticed her saddle pad matched her outfit, wondering if a new non broken in saddle pad helped encourage the saddle to roll...feel awful for her regardless

It's in trouble this year!!! What a pack of super stars. Stevi Hillman's gray horse is a freak of nature, I'm betting on it!

I agree!! As long as she can keep the barrels up on him, I believe they will do it. He looks so challenging to ride! Especially when the barrels are so close to the walls.

Yes please enlighten us.

Simply a theory as I’d sure hope that cinches were checked and triple checked and it didn’t look like anything broke - just that the saddle rolled. I know even with our 5 stars I feel a saddle fits better after a week or 2 of use.

I highly doubt sabotage.

Agreed. I have several different kinds of pads, and I ride all of them at home for at least a week before I try to run in them. I usually cheat and make my husband ride them- it doesn’t take many 12-14 hour days to get them ready!

I'm betting Sharpie sets a new record. He had a bit of a 5yo moment the first go. Was very short and Stevi had to jockey the heck out of him, but he still clocked amazing for his first run in the pen!

I loved seeing that many .6's in the first round. I can only imagine how fast it's going to get. But I was most impressed that I didn't see anyone slipping or struggling to stand up. Great job ground crew!!

I agree on this theory. I just bought a brand new 5 star pad. I tried it on and went for a ride, my saddle slipped/rolled a lot. When i took the pad off I roughed it up a bit with a curry comb. much better now. Maybe she didn't realize this would happen, an easy mistake. I hope she gets it all worked out!! Good riding though!!

This is what I was thinking, maybe the nerves got the better of her. She is human!! I'm sure she will do better today! And she kept it all together! Not sure how many would in a situation like that....
At any rate, i will be rooting for her tonight.

It was nice to see Ivy get a check last night. She is a patch rider for us and has been a great ambassador this year and last year. Our other two patch program riders, Eric Rogers and Riley Minor were both in the team roping money. Clean sweep picking up checks in the first round.
I love this time of year, but don't get as much sleep as I should for ten days.

I believe we are seeing why Sister is AQHA PRCA Horse of the Year.  I havent checked did any other horse of the year winners win a check let alone a round last night?  I love Show Mance and Sharpie and questioned the choice of Sister, but wow did she show her stuff last night.  Hope Tiany gets on Show Mance soon to see what he does with the T&M

I can't stop thinking about Nellie's win on that cute little blue roan - what a horse! She should feel awesome and proud that her family raised and trained her.

Anyone else feel like the ground went from hard to super loose at the first barrel? Just seemed like some of the horses had a hard time hooking up at the first barrel after the first couple runs. It will be interesting to see what it does tonight.

I thought a lot of the horses seemed to get front endy and Peggy when they rated and some of the ladies got pitched forward a little. I'm not sure why, and maybe that's just the way they are. It couldn't have been too bad with all those 13's in the first round.

Kassie was riding Firewatermakemehappy, a horse she rode for the owner in his futurity years. They are a great team, and those of us from the northern portion of Texas have been beaten by them many times??. I betting they will be one of the teams to break the arena record this year. This is an exceptional group, and it would not shock me if the record is broken 2 or 3 times.

OhMax - 2017-12-08 6:41 AM I agree on all! She’s riding a treeless and I noticed her saddle pad matched her outfit, wondering if a new non broken in saddle pad helped encourage the saddle to roll...feel awful for her regardless

I wondered that too.  Hope for better luck tonight

The pad had nothing to do with it. Her billet broke. She made a hell of a save.

Another awesome round! I’m thinking Hailey will get the arena record. For being such a young horse Sister is handling things like an old pro. Is it just me or does Foxy look like she isn’t running to her full potential? Sure hope she isn’t under the weather she can sure lay down a run.

Wow, thanks for posting and updating!! This is the most exciting NFR!! It is so exciting to cheer for all the locals that many of compete with on a regular basis.
Hats off to the college students who balanced rodeo and college all year while qualifying.
Fingers crossed for all 15 to have that flawless run tonight!!

Someone was saying they need to grind up the bottom (hard pan) with some sort of Tillar machine....I don’t know much about how to fix ground like that but it makes sense....I also guess it would be hard since they only have like what 1 foot of dirt before the concrete bottom? At least that’s how it is at our big indoor rodeo down here

I wonder what effect the weather had on the ground when it turned bad? Round 4 was the night the cold front came in out there. The temp change along with them maybe running the heat in the building can drastically change the moisture content and the grounds ability to hold. I just thought it coincidental that the first cold night the ground crapped out?!?

If the NFR ended after Round 6 and they paid out the average as it stands, Tiany first by just $11k over Hailey in second. Nellie Miller third and Ivy Conrado would jump TEN SPOTS to 4th.

The payout at the NFR is just wild. Tiany set a regular season earnings record and has a real chance of not winning the World.

RnRJack - 2017-12-11 1:52 PM Someone was saying they need to grind up the bottom (hard pan) with some sort of Tillar machine....I don’t know much about how to fix ground like that but it makes sense....I also guess it would be hard since they only have like what 1 foot of dirt before the concrete bottom? At least that’s how it is at our big indoor rodeo down here
I wonder what effect the weather had on the ground when it turned bad? Round 4 was the night the cold front came in out there. The temp change along with them maybe running the heat in the building can drastically change the moisture content and the grounds ability to hold. I just thought it coincidental that the first cold night the ground crapped out?!?

 Good thought

I never thought of that. I mean, I'm fair weather and prefer a heated indoor arena but I never thought about it affecting the ground.

OhMax - 2017-12-08 7:41 AM I agree on all! She’s riding a treeless and I noticed her saddle pad matched her outfit, wondering if a new non broken in saddle pad helped encourage the saddle to roll...feel awful for her regardless
yeah, that's not what happened.

So lets hear it

Yes please enlighten us.

Simply a theory as I’d sure hope that cinches were checked and triple checked and it didn’t look like anything broke - just that the saddle rolled. I know even with our 5 stars I feel a saddle fits better after a week or 2 of use.

I highly doubt sabotage.

Well shoot Maybe she should cut all their tails off too and run bareback.. THat might shave a few 10ths of a second off her times and man, she could save SO MUCH time by not having to saddle her horse to, what would she do with that 10 minutes...

Now, I agree with the hands part, I roach all my horses manes 3" in front of where the saddle pad sits for that very reason, and so it can't shift under my pad as I run and pull.

I feel like we are going to look up Saturday and Nellie will be our world champion. It gives you a grasp on exactly how much money can be won out there! Tiany set a regular season earnings record and may not win the world title! That’s nuts!

I was just thinking to myself this morning that she's the sleeper that no one is looking out for! Lol! She is definitely creeping her way up there. Not setting anything on fire, just collecting a check each round, staying clean, sitting really pretty in that average.

I thought the same thing Ashley! I don’t think Ivy or Nellie can safety up, they’re too close and Nellie has it all on the line. What’s the running order for tonight? Whichever one runs first will set the playbook for the other one...

I love how well Ivy is doing but man that little mare of Nellie’s is WICKED and soooo my style, I hope my geldings are as fun to watch some day as she is!!!

So is Hailey still winning the Dodge Ram Award? I haven't been keeping track of the other event winners...

Oops never mind, I just found the results, she's in 2nd place.

I was so stoked for ivy. She had such a crummy finals last year, she in no way got to show how talented she really is!! I hope Tiany busts Hoosier out for the last two rounds! I’ve waited all week to see him run in that pen!

What happened to the little chestnut horse that Ivy rode last year? He was wicked fast!
Are both Hailey and Nellie's horses named Sister??
Thank you!

Nellie's horse that she is running name is Sister...she is a half sister to Blue Duck, the horse she qualified on in like 2010.
And yes, there is another Sister being run, I think Hailey's palomino.

Amber Moore said in a an interview that Ivy was coming over every night in the warm up pen and borrowing her hoofpick because of Paige being a Darkelly daughter, said she’d probably give her the pick at the end of the week. I found that and how everyone was clapping and cheering for Kimmie when she kept all the barrels up to be 2 really cool stories of the week and the camaraderie between the ladies

I really like Kimmie Wall's horse Foxy but they just aren't running the same as they were last year. Last year they looked effortless and I really enjoyed watching them.. This year it's like a wild ride every time they run in the arena. So different!

I didn’t take that as snarky either, just meant J Lo will listen and do whatever you tell her and go wherever you put her making her a better choice for the T & M, doesn’t have to worry about her anticipating or fighting her trying to hold her off a barrel.

I'm sorry but I think you're wrong. In the Barrel Racing Report Kellie said she was taking 3 horses to the NFR; Lolo, Muffin, and Eagle. In the next sentence it was stated that her and her mom own all of them. If Kassidy did decide to sell him, which I'm pretty sure she did, she has her own reasons for doing so and she's still allowed to support the horse and post pictures of him.

Did you not watch the NFR last year? Ivy had a horrible time on Tobbie turning in front of barrels. Ivy’s dad has been the main one running Tibbie this past summer. Trust me...the first summer Ivy ran Tibbie she had a pretty rough time. She gets along with JLo so she would have been stupid to not run her since she’s the horse that stepped up and got Ivy to the NFR. Is Tibbie great? Yes. But she also isn’t as honest as JLo and you need an honest horse for the NFR.

Sorry! I thought the “you” in “she only does what you tell her to do” was referencing the person that said she -Tibbie-was being used in the grand entry.... now I see what the quote actually meant. So many people get slammed for being an arm chair quarterback or a know it all and I assumed the wrong motive because of the quote. Sorry!
