I think the new arena record was awesome. It shows that our industry is progressing! We are breeding and training better, faster horses!!! Do I think the better ground helps? Sure!!! This too is a move in the right direction where our sport is concerned!

IMO what we are looking at with DM SISSY HAYDAY is a breeders and barrel racer's
dreams.
Out of a jillion genes between stallion and mare you get the right combination and
make a hybrid wild child with the best characteristics of both dam and sire ....
and then along comes Miss Hailey and turns them into a real magic show!!!
Hailey ran this mare like she was a featherduster and swiped the dust right off
those barrels and kicked in the after burner on the run home.
Every horse and rider there had the same ten chances to out perform "Sister"
with a 13.10 but they all chose to ride the escalator and enjoy the action!!
When I saw that Hailey was going to try to blast her way to a lower time ...
I placed a finger on each barrel to give her the opportunity to show all the
couch potatoes that her 13.11 was no fluke!! It shows what confidence
and being focused can accomplish.... WHAT AN AMAZING PAIR!!
I admire the riders that knew they didn't have the right pair of legs to win
enough rounds to win the big purse ... so they focused on running consistently
for the golden egg by winning the average ... AND IT WORKED!!
So make your New Years resolution by taking my advice ...
GET YOUR BUTT CONNECTED TO YOUR BRAIN ... AND...
MAYBE WE WILL SEE YOU AT THE NFR IN 2018!!

the pattern hasn't been kept the EXACT same through the years running there. If I remember what I read it was roughly a 2 foot difference at the score line. So having an arena record is hard to say. I kind of have to agree with the fast time. It's not fair to call it an arena record if the pattern hasn't been the same through the years.

I would have no problems calling it an arena record if the pattern sizes were the same from year to year!!! This years pattern was shorter than previously. Just facts. But no less an amazing accomplishment! Who knows how many low 13s would have been run on the same pattern as this year. Pattern sizes are public knowledge and posted at the rodeo. If Calgary stampede went with a pattern 3 foot shorter next year from this year and someone ran a 16.5 would that then be a new arena record?
