It may not help. I just bought a pair of their riding jeans and they are true to size. I love them.

I have two pair - first pair was true to size, fit great. Second pair I just walked in and bought the same size in a different design (but still an Ariat trouser jean), and they are wayyy too baggy and fit much looser than the original pair that fit me like a glove. Definitely suggest trying them on if you can!

If you have wider hips...go up a size. If your pretty straight though the hips get your normal size. I could wear my normal size, but they were just a little snug over my hips making the waist a smudge uncomfortable. The bigger size seemed a bit baggy until I washed them and they fit perfect. So I guess they do shrink a tiny bit, like all jeans with stretch. I do dry mine though.

I have the bootcut ones as well and didn't need to size up. So they fit slightly different.

I have 3 pairs in different styles of the trousers and they all fit the same. The bigger size was baggy until I washed them and then they fit great. Maybe the pair you got were a dud?

I've have several pairs of rock & roll cowgirls that are like that. I had one pair I swore they sewed a 28 waist on a 29 jean and then ones that did fit I swore they shrunk every time I washed them. I haven't gained any weight lol but they got tighter?
