| I'll admit it, I'm a bit addict just like the majority of other barrel racers out there... but why are the bits prices on the Facebook auction page so dang high?? $300 for a bit that costs half that new? I can't imagine paying THAT much for a bit. I even saw an l&w that I bought brand new for $75 a few months ago go for twice that on the auction page. What's up with that? |

Location: Tenn. | Dave Elliott quit taking orders back in the summer and hasn't opened his doors back up yet, so people feel the need to get ahold of us many as they can and aren't afraid to pay double the price. I love all of my Elliott bits and wasn't going to turn loose of any, however when you can sell one for double what you have in it you would be crazy not to sell the ones that are just hanging on the wall. He is supposed to start taking orders again this spring from what I heard so I believe we will all be trying to replenish our stock! LOL |

I sold one that we didn't use much, and would probably pay the $300 if I could find another like my favorite DE bit. I hope he DOES start building bits again in the spring and I also hope he doesn't take any notes off the FB pages that show people happily paying double! haha! |

Location: Deep South | I guess I understand the Dave Elliots going for so much. Supply and Demand at work and all that. I personally wouldn't buy them for double the retail price, but I do understand it. But I don't understand the L&W's. I saw a $50 snaffle auction for $150! I know it can take a little while to get your order from them, but is the wait really worth 100 extra dollars to some people? Insane to me! |

Shallow Creek was one of the first barrel horse bits businesses out there and are still going strong. If you check out these higher priced bits they are only copies of Shallow Creek originals. And if you place an order they are usually shipped that same day. Plus Jan and Boyce can talk with you about what your horse is doing and give you bit suggestions on how to help get you back in the W column!

Location: The best kept secret in TX | If it's a handmade bit that's mounted I will easily pay $300 for the right maker. I've done it many times and gotten the same that I've put in back easily at auction.
Everyone should know by now that I use JD Morrow to make all my bits. (He makes all of Ed and Martha Wright's bits.) His custom bits have a nice feel and they're priced right for the quality. Not to mention he's fast! I've called him to make me one and he's gotten them done in days before. He even adds some "flare" on the sides of the shanks when he's feeling fancy.
Drive out to his shop and pay at pick up or he brings them to my office. He's great and very knowledgeable. I'd pay an arm and a leg for one of his if he priced them that high.  |

Just my two cents, but my shallow creek bits don't compare to my Elliott's. The feel and balance just doesn't even compare. Dave does a great job helping you determine what your horse may need, also. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | I have no idea. I haven't bought a new bit in over 5 years. At this point I have so many bits that if my horses won't work in one I already own, it's probably a true training/riding issue and buying a new bit isn't going to fix it lol |

| Supply and Demand I suppose. L&W Does not have the easiest customer service. Dave Elliott quit taking orders. The Troy Flaharty that I sold in the auction group brought twice what I paid for it, and I was proud to get it. I think he also has a waiting list, many "bigger" name trainer use his bits and really openly push his bits. Also, Diamonds and Dirt helped his business when they really started pushing his bits as awards (that is what introduced me to them). I also sold a CJ Orginal Grasshopper they no longer make them like they did 10 years ago, and it brought $225. I paid $76 new. I think its mostly supply and demand. |

Probably not the popular opinion, but it's my opinion ---- Why the crazy high bit prices? Because so many of us will pay it. Just like they charge ropers $10 a night for a stall and barrel racers pay $35 per night at the same arena/venue. They keep going up and we are happy to pay it (insert rolling eyes).
Maybe we should rethink some of this, LOL!!

I contacted No HIt BIt, and I have their Half O Ring also. You can choose a mouth piece, and They have a half O ring, an o ring, their no hit bit, in short, medium, and long. I believe my O Ring was over $100 by No HIt Bit.... My JD Morrow O Rings I love and they're around $60 |

I give lots of friends these bits for Christmas and Birthday presents. THey're nice and priced very low for the quality and workmanship. |

I have literally paid double for ONE stall what my husband paid for 3 for a weekend. Same with hookups.

i ordered a shallow creek bit and love it. I highly recommend their product and their service!

He closed his books to build stock for the BFA, as they had a booth, which sold out in record time.
He is now catching up from orders he didn't finish before books closed.
He will not be upping his prices (I work for a rider/clinician he sponsors so we chat with him regularly and this has not been brought up to either of us).
