Looking for ideas on a honeymoon, was going to go to the Caribbean but are looking for Ziki free so that is out of the question. We look at Mediterranean but flight is too long and trip is expensive! Any ideas in the states?

Visit National Parks!   A great trip is Badland National Park, Custer State Park, Black Hills National Park, up to Devil's Tower National Monument and then over to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons!

CRUISE!! That’s what we did and LOVED IT!! We went on carnival and went to Cozumel, Belize and Mohagany Bay. The food is great, there is a ton of stuff to do, and you can’t visit one of those places by plane as cheap as you can cruise to all three. I’ve been on two and am already planning my third as my graduation present when I get done with nursing school.

Hyatt Ziva, Cancun. I have had multiple friends say it's awesome.

Personally, I am not a beach person, so I would totally be up for Canada, the National Parks and I've always wanted to visit Maine and Nova Scotia.

Florida is by far the biggest state for Zika. Texas has a few cases.
All of the Caribbean carries some risk for Zika virus transmission.
Same for Central America. Caribbean cruises are risky.
It’s very rare in Hawaii.

England and Scotland is great. That would be safe. You can get some decent deals. Check out Ireland as well.

I haven’t been on an Alaskan Cruise, but people sure love them.
That’s safe too.

Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park and Glacier National Park are all breathtakingly beautiful, especially in the summertime.

You can always rent an AirBnB or get a hotel room somewhere you have dreamt of visiting, and explore the city like a local for a week or so. If you had a few cities/towns or a region in mind, you could look up events that are happening at that time and plan around a festival, rodeo, or community event.

Monterey, CA area is nice. You can take hwy 1 to Big Sur. The beach is pretty. Beautiful scenery. Carmel by the sea has quaint little shops and there’s great restaurants everywhere. Pebble Beach, Monterey, Carmel Highlands and Carmel By The Sea are all close to each other and easy to get around. Big Sur is about an hour or so away, if my memory is correct. There’s a great burger place up in the cliffs that looks out over the ocean.

I'm a Disney World and Universal Orlando type of girl!! We too are planning out belated honeymoon trip when my husband gets back from deployment, and even though I would love to go somewhere tropical Disneyworld is always in the back of my mind. The Key's are always a nice place to go too!

We were just done in Florida for two weeks and did not have any problems! It has the ocean if you want it, and a bunch of things to do. :D

Zika is so rare and you only contract it if you are a complete idiot not taking precautions. Carribean, Costa Rica and every other area is safe as far as Zika goes. There are many other unsafe issues as far as international travel goes than to worry about Zika!

Maybe you are an expert in viral diseases, but the lady specified that any area with any risk of Zika is out of the question. Instead of respecting that request you recommended Costa Rica, and the rest of the Caribbean, in your infinite wisdom and suggest only an idiot would not take precautions.

Maybe a picture would aid in better understanding.....unless you think the doctors and scientist at the cdc are also idiots. Some people prefer pictures to actual reading:

Zika virus is closely related to the viruses that cause Yellow Fever and West Nile. It’s most notorious as a significant risk to pregnant women because it can cause birth defects like microcephaly and mental retardation. About 20% of people exposed to it develop clinical illness, which is usually mild....rash, fever, joint pain, etc....
Rarely they can develop severe illness like Guillan Barre’ or encephalitis. It isn’t only transmitted by mosquitoes...you can get it via sexual contact, person-to-person contact, transplants, and transfusions.
Treatment is supportive like most viral illnesses.
All-in-all, it’s not something I’d like to risk.
One unique thing about Zika is that if you travel anywhere like mountains above 5-6000 ft you are pretty safe.

I know this because I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Most of us that grew up on the border take all these viruses very serious. If I were a young lady that is looking for great places to spend my Honeymoon nothing across the border like Costa Rica are any of the South America areas I would not consider. No going South over the border why risk it, GO north for a Honeymoon. Zika is a problem and risk for a young women that is considering having children. Thanks Bear for bringing this up, because it is a Risk..

I’m getting married in 2 weeks but my husband is a teacher so we’re waiting until summer to go on our honeymoon. We are starting here in Alabama where we live and going to NOLA and then on across the country and visiting different cities along the way. We’re going to come back through Arkansas and Tennessee. We’re renting a car that’s good on gas and just going where ever we end up. We really don’t have any certain places to visit. Will figure that at on the way.
