| Lots of raffle drawings for horses going on around where i live. What is your opinion on this? Are they legal? What are the repercussions for those who participate in buying chances to win. Some raffles are for big ticket items, i.e. horse trailers, saddles, etc. in addition to horses. All it takes is buying a spot for the random draw done online.

| If I am not mistaken they are illegal in a lot of states and almost always illegal for those under legal gambling age.
I’ve also seen a couple instances where they were rigged.
Not my cup of tea. |

| They are extremely illegal in almost all states. It’s unregulated gambling. Here in CO for example, you must have a license and go through classes before you can put on a raffle. There’s a ton of rules and guidelines.
It’s way too easy for the person putting on these “raffles” to rig them. They can easily fill the spots with real people, put a fake name in a few spots, continue to pick until they get a number they want, show that as being the live drawing. BAM! They have made $10,000 and still have the horse. It’s a scam at its finest and people are downright stupid if they choose to do them.
As for the repercussions...it could easily end in jail time if push comes to shove and someone throws the people don’t them under the bus. Plus since they are collecting money from people in other states...that opens another can of worms. |

Well said, SKM. I sat on a grand jury and had my eyes opened to this scam recently. Glad the DA took the case. Don't do it folks, don't participate and sure don't put one on! |
